Valley City (CSi)   A  Valley City Police officer was injured Friday,  April 21st about 4:25-p.m., when the police squad car collided with an Open Door Center van.

Valley City Police Chief Phil Hatcher says the van and the squad car crashed in the middle of Main Street near the intersection of 2nd Avenue Northeast.

Barnes County Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Anderson says  the Valley City Police Car was northbound on 2nd Avenue Southeast, and the van was southbound on 2nd Avenue.  The van turned east onto main street and collided with the patrol car.

The Barnes County fire and rescue squad  extricated the officer Sgt. Dana Rustebakke from the squad car, and he was  transported to Mercy Hospital and was treated for injuries and released.

The driver of the van Tanner Hovland was cited for Failure to Yield. He was not seriously  injured in the crash.

All occupants in van were also taken to the hospital for observation.

The Barnes County Sheriff’s office is investigation  the cause.
