Jamestown  (uj.edu)  It was a record-breaking performance for the University of Jamestown men’s hockey team in their win over the University of Utah Thursday night.

Ten different players scored goals and seventeen players in all registered points as the Jimmies defeated the Skatin’ Utes 15-2 at Wilson Arena.

The 15 goals broke the previous mark of 10, set October 28, 2016 in a 10-0 win at North Dakota State, and again on January 7, 2018, in a 10-1 victory over Williston State.

Jamestown led 5-0 after the first, only to see the Utes score twice in a two-minute span early in the second to cut the lead to 5-2. UJ responded with 10 straight goals to put the game safely out of reach.

Michael Pruss (JR/Red Deer, Alberta) had a hat trick and a pair of assists as part of a five-point night, and Cameron Todd (JR/Burraneer, Australia) also had five points with a pair of goals and three assists.

Cole Sonstebo (SR/Fergus Falls, Minn. ), Allan Pruss (JR/Red Deer, Alberta), and Brandon Schaber (JR/Alder Flats, Alberta) all had three assists. Trevor Okino (JR/Richmond, British Columbia) and Jason Richter (JR/Cranbrook, British Columbia) joined Todd and Michael Pruss with multiple goals.

Dylan Haney (SO/Brandon, Manitoba), Cayle Bell (JR/Fort St. John, British Columbia), Josh Stephens (FR/Bayreuth, Germany), Kyle Baron (JR/Abbotsford, British Columbia), Tyler Chavez-Leech (SO/Red Deer, Alberta), and Sonstebo also tallied goals for the Jimmies. Bryson Yee (JR/Calgary, Alberta), Cole McKechney (JR/Calgary, Alberta), and Destin Robinson (JR/Ponoka, Alberta) all finished with a pair of assists while Jeremy McNeil (JR/Calgary, Alberta) and Garret Browning (JR/Winnipeg, Manitoba) recorded assists.

David Anderson (JR/Santa Clarita, Calif.) stopped 19 of 21 shots in his first start of the season.

Shots were 49-21 in favor of Jamestown. Utah was 0-for-5 on the power play while the Jimmies did not have a chance with the man advantage.

UJ begins a home weekend series with the University of Illinois Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Jamestown  (uj.edu)The University of Jamestown hockey team posted its second victory over a top-three team in eight days Friday, taking down the University of Illinois 3-2 at Wilson Arena.

Allan Pruss (JR/Red Deer, Alberta) scored on the power play with 30 seconds remaining in the second period to break a 2-all tie while Tyson Brouwer (JR/Lethbridge, Alberta) made 17 of his 37 saves in the third period to preserve the victory. The Jimmies won their second straight game and are now 3-2-0-1 on the year.

Dylan Haney (SO/Brandon, Manitoba) put Jamestown ahead 1-0 just 17 seconds into the game on an unassisted breakaway. Haney’s goal was the fastest first-period goal in the program’s three-year history and the second-fastest overall goal, behind only Destin Robinson (JR/Ponoka, Alberta)’s 14 second tally on October 21, 2017.

Illinois tied the game on a power play goal by Charley Salk at 6:03 of the second period. Cameron Todd (JR/Burraneer, Australia) broke the tie with a goal two minutes and forty-five seconds later, assisted by Trevor Okino (JR/Richmond, British Columbia).

Jon Moskaluk tied the game once more with a shorthanded marker at 18:48 of the second.

Despite a scoreless third period, Jamestown found itself having to kill off four penalties, including a 5-on-3 for a minute and twenty seconds. The Illini also pulled its goaltender for an extra skater with 1:42 remaining.

Jake Barnhart had 25 saves for Illinois (4-1-1-0), which lost in regulation for the first time this season.

The Illini were 1-of-8 on the power play while the Jimmies were successful on 1-of-5 opportunities.

The teams conclude their weekend series Saturday with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff at Wilson Arena.

Jamestown  (uj.edu)  Cameron Todd (JR/Burraneer, Australia) scored with 1.4 seconds remaining in overtime to propel the University of Jamestown hockey team to a 3-2 victory over the University of Illinois Saturday evening at Wilson Arena.

The win completed a sweep of the weekend series between the Illini and Jimmies and secured a perfect 3-0 record during this week’s homestand.

Jamestown battled back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits earlier in the game thanks to goals by Dylan Haney (SO/Brandon, Manitoba) and Trevor Okino (JR/Richmond, British Columbia).

Luke Forfar’s power play goal put the visitors ahead just 6:24 into the game. Haney answered at the 9:06 mark with an even-strength goal assisted by Okino and Cayle Bell (JR/Fort St. John, British Columbia).

The Illini power play struck again at 9:41 of the second period as Stephen Quinn made it 2-1. Okino tied the game with 3:47 left in the second with another five-on-five goal, this time assisted by Todd and Cole McKechney (JR/Calgary, Alberta).

Following a scoreless third period, Illinois and Jamestown headed to a three-on-three overtime period. With both teams playing their third game in as many nights, fatigue was taking its toll.

With approximately five seconds left in overtime, Todd received a pass near the halfline and skated towards the opposing net for one last chance. His shot beat Jake Barnhart as 1.4 seconds remained on the clock and sent the Jimmie crowd home happy.

Tyson Brouwer (JR/Lethbridge, Alberta) had 36 saves on 38 shots. Barnhart finished with 26 stops on 29 shots. The Illini were 2-for-4 on the power play while the JImmies went 0-for-2.

Jamestown (4-2-0-1) is off next weekend, then hit the road to face Eastern Michigan for a weekend series October 26-27.
