CRETE, Neb.  (uj.edu)  — The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team won their Great Plains Athletic Conference opener on the road in convincing fashion, defeating Doane (Neb.) 78-56 in Crete, Neb.

UJ improved to 5-1 overall on the strength of another outstanding defensive effort forcing 32 turnovers and holding the Tigers to 31 percent shooting from the floor.

Olivia Anderson (SR/Edgeley, ND) led Jamestown with 21 points on 10-12 shoot from the floor in just 17 minutes of playing time while grabbing 7 rebounds and making her only 3-point shot attempt of the game.

Mackensi Higlin (JR/Mandan, ND) had a career high 19 points off the bench while grabbing 8 rebounds and accumulating 4 steals and registered 3 of the team’s 6 blocked shots.

The Jimmie bench outscored the Tiger bench 36-9.

Noelle Josephson (SO/Ramsey, MN) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds as the Jimmies outrebounded the Tigers 55-45 including a 24-13 advantage on the offensive end.

The Jimmies have forced 136 turnovers in 6 games for an average of over 22 turnovers per game and have forced 48 more turnovers than they have committed so far this season.

UJ also recorded 25 steals with Josephson leading the way with a career-high 7 steals.

UJ led by just two at the end of the first quarter, 17-15, but outscored the tigers by six in the second quarter to lead 32-24 and blew is open in the third quarter with a 24-11 scoring advantage to lead 56-35 heading into the 4th quarter.

The Jimmies will host #7 Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. in the GPAC home opener at Harold Newman Arena.

 

Men…

CRETE, Neb.  (uj.edu)  —  The University of Jamestown men’s basketball team won their seventh consecutive game and won their Great Plains Athletic Conference opener on the road, 97-71 against Doane University on Saturday afternoon.

Doane jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead, but it was all Jimmies after that as UJ ran off 9 consecutive points and would lead the rest of the way.

During a 5 minute stretch the Jimmies outscored the Tigers 23-4 and grew their lead from 11-9 to 34-13.

UJ led 63-28 at the half and grew the lead to as many as 39 in the second half in improving to 7-1 on the season.

Brock Schrom (JR/Grand Rapids, MN) scored a season-high 22 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor and added 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a blocked shot.

Jack Talley (JR/Sioux Falls, SD) added 18 points and 6 assists, Terrell Alfred (SR/Orlando, FL) had 18 points of the bench while making 5-of-7 3-point shots.

Isaiah Dobson (SR/Stillwater, MN) was the other Jimmie in double figures with 11 points while adding 4 assists and a steal.

UJ shot a season-best 55.6 percent from the floor and made a season-high 15 3-point shots while making just over 45 percent of their attempts.

The Jimmies bench outscored the Tigers 43-28, outrebounded them 42-28 and outscored them in the paint 43-28.

UJ also dished out 21 assists on 35 made shots.

The Jimmies will host #7 ranked Dakota Wesleyan in the GPAC home opener Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. at Harold Newman Arena.
