GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – Hockey Canada has named former University of North Dakota standout and current Phoenix Coyotes head coach Dave Tippett as head coach for Team Canada at the upcoming 2014 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship.
Tippett recently completed his fifth season as head coach in Phoenix, where he has led the club to three playoff appearances and a pair of 40-win seasons.
Tippett spent the 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons at North Dakota, helping lead the team to a national championship as a freshman. He went on to play 11 years in the NHL.
The 2014 IIHF World Championship is May 9-25 in Minsk, Belarus.
