Valley City Commission SPECIAL MEETING,  7am Friday Feb 19, now replaying on CSi 68

Valley City (CSi) – Two special meetings of the Valley City Commission were held Thursday Feb 11, 2016, at City Hall.  Now online below – audio from 7am & full video/audio from 4pm Feb 11 Special Meetings of Feb 11.

 

Mayor Werkehoven was not present. The meeting was conducted by Commission Vice President Pedersen.

The City Commissioners discussed the permissibility of the grievances filed against Mayor Werkhoven, and how the employee manual and code of conduct apply to the process going forward.

The city commission had requested the Barnes County State’s Attorney to determine the status of the grievances. Under review is rights of four city employees in the city employee personal policy and procedure manual.

At Thursday’s meeting, Pedersen said State’s Attorney Carl Martineck said it was not within his scope to provide the information.

The Commission voted unanimously to hire Vogel Law Firm to make a determination on the permissibility and how the process pertains to the city’s Code of Conduct and Employee Manuel, with a fee cap of $7,500.

Next the City Commissioners considered retaining an attorney for the limited purpose of investigating the grievances filed against Mayor Werkhoven and advising the City Commission during the Grievance procedures.

The City Commission voted unanimously to potentially engage attorney Pat Monson as a mediator, if Vogel determines that mediation is the approach.

A fee cap is to be determined.
