{"id":100130,"date":"2016-05-05T10:07:25","date_gmt":"2016-05-05T15:07:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=100130"},"modified":"2016-05-05T11:31:52","modified_gmt":"2016-05-05T16:31:52","slug":"sunflower-seed-recall-possible-listeria-contamination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=100130","title":{"rendered":"Sunflower seed recall, possible listeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/PlanterSunflowerKernels.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-100144\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-100144\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/PlanterSunflowerKernels-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"PlanterSunflowerKernels\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/PlanterSunflowerKernels-300x202.jpg 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/PlanterSunflowerKernels-260x175.jpg 260w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/PlanterSunflowerKernels.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>(CSi) A major sunflower seed producer is recalling some of its kernels due to possible contamination.<\/p>\n<p>SunOpta is recalling sunflower kernels under the Planters Sunflower Kernels and Dakota&#8217;s Best Biggy&#8217;z Roasted and Salted Kernels brands &#8220;out of an abundance of caution,&#8221; the company said in a <a href=\"http:\/\/investor.sunopta.com\/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=968902\" target=\"_blank\">press release<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The kernels were sent to Illinois and North Dakota,<\/strong> but the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Safety\/Recalls\/ucm499204.htm\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Food and Drug Administration<\/a> said they may have been redistributed to other states.<\/p>\n<p>The recall also affected <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fsis.usda.gov\/wps\/portal\/fsis\/topics\/recalls-and-public-health-alerts\/recall-case-archive\/archive\/2016\/recall-034-2016-release\" target=\"_blank\">Ghiringhelli Specialty Foods<\/a>, which recalled over 33,000 pounds of its Broccoli Slaw &amp; Kale Salad with White Chicken Meat sold at Trader Joe&#8217;s, because it includes a packet of the sunflower kernels produced by SunOpta.<\/p>\n<p>The Planters products have best-by dates of 3\/6, 3\/7 and 3\/8\/2017. The Dakota best-by date is 2\/11\/2017. UPC&#8217;s for the Planters and Dakota products can be found on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fda.gov\/Safety\/Recalls\/ucm499204.htm\" target=\"_blank\">FDA&#8217;s recall notice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Trader Joe&#8217;s products have use by dates of 5\/2-5\/7\/2016 and establishment number &#8220;P-17156.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection to the recalls. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/listeria\/statistics.html\" target=\"_blank\">Listeria monocytogenes<\/a> can cause listeriosis, which can cause fevers, headaches, abdominal pain, diarrhea and nausea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.<\/p>\n<p>Customers can throw away or return any of these products to the stores where they were purchased for a full refund.
