ELLENDALE, N.D. (AP) – An 18-month old boy who was reported lost in a cornfield near the North Dakota and South Dakota border has been found unharmed.<\/p>\n
Dickey County Emergency Management Director Charles Russell says the boy was found Thursday afternoon, about four hours after he went missing. Russell says the toddler, who was only wearing a diaper, is fine and “just got some sunburn.”<\/p>\n
The search for the toddler was challenging because the corn on the farm is about 6 feet tall. The search party included a drone from the sheriff’s office in Brown County, South Dakota, and two civilian airplanes.<\/p>\n
The farm is located south of Ellendale.<\/p>\n

MEDORA, N.D. (AP) – Law enforcement authorities say a 64-year-old North Dakota man has died in a vehicle crash on an Interstate 94 exit ramp near Medora.<\/p>\n
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the Belfield resident died Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Authorities say the man, who was driving a truck trailer, failed to negotiate a curve as he was exiting the interstate. A report from the Highway Patrol states that the vehicle tipped onto its side, traveled through the guardrail just before the I-94 overpass and came to rest upside down.<\/p>\n
The Highway Patrol did not release the man’s name Thursday. The agency says the crash remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – A North Dakota man says he will plead guilty to assaulting and injuring a Three Affiliated Tribes officer.<\/p>\n
Arlon Smith is charged with assaulting and resisting a federal officer. Authorities say the incident happened in August 2015 on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation.<\/p>\n
Smith faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.<\/p>\n
A sentencing hearing has not been scheduled.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota parents who are behind on their child support payments are getting more time to catch up.<\/p>\n
The Child Support Division of the Department of Human Services is again granting amnesty and returning suspended driver’s licenses to anyone who sets up a payment plan. For every $2 a person pays toward past-due support, the agency will credit $1 toward accrued interest or money owed to the state.<\/p>\n
The project was started in June and has been extended through July.<\/p>\n
The agency says $259 million is owed in past-due support.<\/p>\n
The agency says more than 2,000 North Dakotans have their driver’s licenses suspended for failing to pay child support, and more than 600 have warrants for their arrest.<\/p>\n

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – Figures from a survey of supply managers in nine Midwest and Plains states have dropped slightly but still suggest economic growth ahead.
\nA report issued Friday says the Mid-American Business Conditions index hit 50.1 in June, compared with 52.1 in May.
\nCreighton University economist Ernie Goss oversees the survey, and he says gains for nondurable-goods producers more than offset continuing losses for regional durable-goods manufacturers.
\nThe survey results are compiled into a collection of indexes ranging from zero to 100. Survey organizers say any score above 50 suggests economic growth. A score below that suggests decline. The survey covers Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Fargo police have established a place for people buying and selling goods online to exchange them.<\/p>\n
The exchange area is on the west side of the department’s substation.<\/p>\n
Crime Prevention Officer Jessica Schindeldecker says the exchange location is meant to give people wary of online transactions a safe place to go.<\/p>\n
She says the building’s surveillance, the possibility of a police officer being present and the high-traffic intersection will serve as a “good deterrent.”<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A Minot city committee is suggesting wage hikes next year for city employees that would increase salaries 4.21 percent over 2016. The Minot Daily News reports that the proposal would cost nearly $1 million in additional funds.\u00a0 The Minot Civil Service Commission took public input on the plan Wednesday. The group’s recommendation will go to the Minot City Council.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – The old clock tower from Dakota Square Mall in Minot has been put up for sale.<\/p>\n
The clock had stood in the mall for 35 years, since it opened in 1980, and was an integral part of the shopping center’s identity. It was a meeting point for many shopping families.<\/p>\n
Mall management removed it a year ago as part of remodeling and had hoped to bring it back in a new, outdoor location once a mall addition was constructed.<\/p>\n
General Manager Chuck Massey says those plans didn’t work out because the clock couldn’t be weatherized.<\/p>\n
The mall donated the clock to Craft Builders, which had done construction work at the mall. The company is now selling it, hoping to get $3,000.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
GRENORA, N.D. (AP) – The small city of Grenora in northwestern North Dakota expects to see an influx of visitors celebrating its centennial anniversary.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 city’s historic celebration runs through the weekend. More than 2,000 people are expected to attend a barbecue Saturday on Main Street.<\/p>\n
Carlyle Norby is helping to organize the gathering. He says the highlight will be the former Grenora residents who come back to visit and share memories.<\/p>\n
Country group Sawyer Brown is performing Saturday, and there will be a parade before the barbecue. Historic tours of the town will also be held.<\/p>\n
Norby, who was principal of Grenora schools for over four decades, says there will be signs explaining what’s been there over the past century.<\/p>\n
The 2010 census pegged Grenora’s population at about 240.<\/p>\n

\nGRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) – The men’s golf program at the University of North Dakota might be spared if it can raise enough money.<\/p>\n
The school announced in April that it was cutting men’s golf and baseball from its athletic offerings due to state budget cuts.<\/p>\n
The \u00a0golf program submitted a funding plan that Interim UND President Ed Schafer approved on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The team will be allowed to compete next season if it can raise enough money by August 30th. The fundraising deadline for the 2017 to 2018 season is June 1st, 2017. Schafer says the plan also provides for an endowment to sustain the golf program beyond 2018.<\/p>\n
Coach Tim Swanson says he’s confident the money can be raised.<\/p>\n

\nSIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) – Organizers of the Sioux Falls Marathon are changing the course for this year’s event, after attending the marathon in Fargo, North Dakota.<\/p>\n
Fargo’s annual race starts and ends at the same spot – the Fargodome. The Argus Leader reports that this September’s Sioux Falls Marathon also will start and end at the same spot – the Sioux Falls Arena.<\/p>\n
Last year’s race started at the Denny Sanford Premier Center and ended at Howard Wood Field.<\/p>\n
Much of this year’s marathon and half-marathon courses also will be moved away from busy thoroughfares and into more residential areas.<\/p>\n
The marathon is September 11th.<\/p>\n

PARIS (AP) – Longtime ESPN personality Mike Tirico has signed off from the network for the last time as he prepares to move to NBC Sports.<\/p>\n
Tirico’s final appearance on the network Thursday came 25 years to the day of his first. He appeared alongside longtime ESPN anchor Bob Ley from Paris, where they are covering the Euro soccer tournament.<\/p>\n
Tirico notes that he’s worked “with everyone from ‘Downtown’ Julie Brown to Hubie Brown on camera at ESPN.” He says he’ll continue to be a fan of the network.<\/p>\n
Tirico had hosted ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” since 2006. NBC says he’ll be involved with NFL and golf coverage for the network, but hasn’t offered specifics. He will be taking part in NBC’s coverage of next month’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) – The latest analysis once again shows the rich getting richer at a much faster pace and continuing to pull away from everyone else. The analysis by Emmanuel Saez, an economics professor at the University of California, Berkeley, finds average income for the top 1 percent of households surging 7.7 percent to $1.36 million. That growth is twice as fast as everyone else, though households outside the top 1 percent now appear to be recovering too.<\/p>\n
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – The only Atlantic City casino unable to make a deal with unionized workers has a strike to deal with today. About 1,000 members of Atlantic City’s main casino workers union went on strike against the Trump Taj Mahal casino, now owned by billionaire Carl Icahn (EYE’-kahn). Trump hasn’t owned it for some time. Union members are still seething from the cancellation of its members’ health insurance and pension benefits nearly two years ago.<\/p>\n
