Valley City\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Valley City Commission met in Special Session this morning to consider and act upon a resignation agreement with Police Chief Fred Thompson.<\/p>\n

Commissioners unanimously \u00a0voted to accepted his resignation.<\/p>\n

City Administrator David Schelhoph said the agreement between the city and Thompson has been negotiated over the past two weeks, and was settled on Wednesday.\u00a0 Thompson’s resignation is effective immediately.<\/p>\n

The Commissioners concurred that Thompson brought a higher level of professionalism to the Valley City Police Department during his tenure as Chief.<\/p>\n

\"hatcherphilltsmall\"<\/a>Lt. Phillip Hatcher<\/strong> will be the Valley City Interim Police Chief.<\/p>\n

The search will begin for Thompson\u2019s permanent replacement.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Mayor David Carlsrud said that internal and external investigation into grievances filed against Thompson have been unfounded.<\/p>\n

City Attorney Russ Myhre said it was \u201cAn honor to know him (Thompson).<\/p>\n

Thompson concluded the meeting by saying that it was \u201cAn honor and privilege,\u201d to serve as Valley City\u2019s Police Chief, and wished the department well in the future.<\/p>\n

He added that when the Supreme Court hands down new rulings that it changes the job.<\/p>\n
