News Feb 1, 2013) —Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) is now offering services for steroid joint injections for pain management. These services include injections into major joints like the hip or shoulder and injections into the epidural space and facet joints of the spine.

The procedures are performed by board-certified radiologists who have received advanced training in injection techniques and musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology. Radiologists, Dr. Gary Wade and Dr. Madhu Reddy, joined the JRMC team in July of 2013.

Diane Nelson, JRMC Radiology manager, says, “JRMC is unique and very fortunate to have two extremely qualified and talented radiologists. They are able to provide a variety of services with very personal and individualized care to their patients.”

Since arriving at JRMC, the radiologists have seen a need to provide steroid injections to the people in the community who suffer from acute or chronic joint and back pain. All the procedures are performed using x-ray fluoroscopy or CT guidance that improves accuracy and assures that the steroid is being injected into the correct space.

Inflammation in the musculoskeletal system is a common source of pain for many people. Image-guided injection of a short-acting anesthetic and anti-inflammatory steroid is useful in the management of joint pain that has not resolved after conservatory therapy. The joint injections can be used to:

· resolve pain faster than would occur with rest and medication

· delay surgical intervention

· diagnose the source of pain

· diminish symptoms

· control pain in non-surgical patients

Procedures can routinely be scheduled at JRMC Radiology within a couple of days. Some insurance companies require pre-authorization and/or documentation of medication/therapy prior to scheduling an injection.

To learn more, patients should talk to their physicians and ask them to schedule an appointment for a pain management injection at JRMC Radiology.

About Jamestown Regional Medical Center

Jamestown Regional Medical Center is a 25-bed, critical access hospital located at 2422 20th St. SW, Jamestown, ND.
