{"id":120232,"date":"2017-04-25T14:40:13","date_gmt":"2017-04-25T19:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=120232"},"modified":"2017-04-26T11:20:37","modified_gmt":"2017-04-26T16:20:37","slug":"severe-summer-weather-awareness-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=120232","title":{"rendered":"Statewide tornado exercise Weds April 26"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_2271\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2271\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2271\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Jerry81412a-300x202.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Jerry81412a-300x202.png 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Jerry81412a-259x175.png 259w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Jerry81412a.png 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2271\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stutsman Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0Stutsman County Emergency Manager, Jerry Bergquist says, \u201cAs part of the awareness week activities, April 24-28, the annual statewide tornado exercise will be conducted. <strong>The exercise is scheduled to begin at about 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 26<\/strong>,\u00a0with a simulated tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service.\u00a0 In response to the simulated warning, a countywide exercise of the emergency operations plan will take place.\u00a0 The plan is designed to warn the greatest number of people in the least amount of time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The week of April 24th has been designated, \u201cSevere Summer Weather Awareness Week,\u201d for the entire state of North Dakota.\u00a0 This annual event is designed to remind the public of the dangers associated with severe summer weather including:\u00a0 lightning, high winds, large hail, flash floods and tornadoes, all of which can cause severe property damage, personal injury, and even death.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>As part of the exercise, sirens will be activated in many area communities\u00a0 including the City of Jamestown.\u00a0 In most communities, sirens will be activated for approximately 3 minutes. In addition, the simulated warning<br \/>\nwill be broadcast over the National Weather Service all-hazards weather radio system, local AM\/FM radio stations and the CSi cable television interrupt system.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The most common reason a community\u2019s warning sirens are activated is to warn the public of a possible tornado.\u00a0 However, sirens could also be activated to alert the public of other types of events that could be a danger to the<br \/>\ncommunity.\u00a0 Hearing the sirens is the signal to either tune into a local radio station or turn on the television, CSi Cable subscribers can to listen for official instructions.<\/p>\n<p>Information may also be provided via the CodeRED notification system, which \u00a0Stutsman County subscribes to, and the Stutsman County Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0Stutsman County Emergency Manager, Jerry Bergquist says, \u201cAs part of the awareness week activities, April 24-28, the annual statewide tornado exercise will be conducted.
