Each time, Orr played alongside his friend, the late Jerry Baenen.<\/p>\n<p>Baenen died of cancer and other health issues in December 2016.<\/p>\n<p><em>Pictured above, from left, is Team Jerry\u2019s Kids: Brent Giesler, Michael Nogosek, Len Orr and the late Jerrold \u201cJerry\u201d Baenen. <\/em><\/p>\n<p>The seventh annual GOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD <strong>Tournament is set for Friday, July 21.<\/strong> All proceeds benefit Jamestown Regional Medical\u2019s Cancer Center. This year, the tournament is in Baenen\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJerry golfed all the time, but he considered GOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD one of his favorites,\u201d Orr said.<\/p>\n<p>A survivor himself, Baenen knew that cancer is not an illness you fight alone. To help, Baenen volunteered his time with Stutsman County Relay for Life. He\u2019d also drive people to their oncology treatments in Bismarck, if they needed it.<\/p>\n<p>Orr\u2019s team, \u201cJerry\u2019s Kids,\u201d consisted of Baenen, who was in his 80s, Orr, age 54, as well as Orr\u2019s stepson, Brent Giesler, and friend, Michael Nogosek, who are both in their 20s. The team played well together, even earning top prize in last year\u2019s tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Baenen played a large role in earning that title.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if we can win this year without Jerry\u2019s putting,\u201d Orr said.<\/p>\n<p>This year, Team \u201cJerry\u2019s Kids\u201d will again include the kids \u2013 Orr, Giesler and Nogosek, as well as Jerry\u2019s own \u2018kid\u2019, his daughter, Julie Jeske of Bismarck.<\/p>\n<p>The day will be bittersweet, Jeske said, however, she knows her dad will be smiling down at her. She plans to wear his hat and carry his Fighting Sioux golf bag in his memory. Jeske\u2019s brother, Steve Baenen of North Carolina, will serve as her caddy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis tournament is going to be a special time for me,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s an honor to represent my dad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The team will wear a moniker in Baenen\u2019s memory. Orr, who owns Orr-iginals embroidery and screen printing shop, said he plans to design something to pay tribute to his friend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD is a great excuse to support a great cause,\u201d said Lisa Jackson, JRMC Foundation director. \u201cMiles matter when it comes to cancer care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the JRMC Cancer Center will provide chemotherapy infusions for more than 100 residents of Jamestown and the surrounding communities. Currently, those people travel more than 100 miles for that care. This will eliminate more than 160,000 miles of travel per year.<\/p>\n<p>Baenen knew that those miles matter, Jeske said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCancer is a battle you don\u2019t fight by yourself,\u201d she said. \u201cIt pretty much takes a village to help you through it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The JRMC Cancer Center will include six infusion rooms, a consultation area and space for nurses and staff. Last year\u2019s GOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD netted more than $26,000.<\/p>\n<p>So far, JRMC Foundation has raised more than $900,000 of its $1.5 million goal.<br \/>\nGOLF \u201cfore\u201d GOOD is co-sponsored by Davis Real Estate Services and Physicians Realty Trust.
