Jamestown\u00a0\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown Public School Board \u00a0has unanimously approved a draft budget.<\/p>\n

At Monday evening\u2019s meeting recorded by CSi 10 The Replay Channel, \u00a0the revenue as of June 30 this year, stands \u00a0at $28.88 million, with $29.13 million in total expenditures.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 General Fund balance is $3.13 million.<\/p>\n

The previous year\u2019s total revenue as of June 20, 2016, was $27.57 million with $28.04 million in expenditures and a general fund balance of $3.38 million.<\/p>\n

Superintendent Robert Lech pointed out that a final budget is yet to be \u00a0approved at this time with too many variables that still exist.<\/p>\n

Yet to be added to the budget scenario \u00a0include late \u00a0federal funding , along with \u00a0around $500,000 less state aid than the previous year, and a zero increase bill from the2017 session of the North Dakota Legislature.<\/p>\n

That will result in a negative if the student population remains the same or less and if state deductions increase at the same time.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the school board approved the certificate of levy request with the anticipated percentage increase on the school district\u2019s property taxes.<\/p>\n

The zero mill calculation is based on the mill levy a changing factor annually and the result of assessor valuation of a lot or tract of land.<\/p>\n

The school district budget will not likely be in a final form until September, and so the draft budget is estimating a 5 percent increase in local revenues<\/p>\n

The mill levy hearing was set for 6 p.m. Oct. 2 at the middle school.<\/p>\n

In Other business:<\/p>\n

School Board President Roger Haut and Vice President Heidi Larson were re-elected by a 7-0 vote for 2017.<\/p>\n

The School Board members annual compensation was approved remaining \u00a0at $4,000 per member and $4,600 for the president.<\/p>\n
