\"\"<\/a>PIERRE, S.D. (AP) \u2014 Gov. Dennis Daugaard has requested that all flags in the state be flown at half-staff on Thursday in honor of Presho’s late fire chief.<\/p>\n

Fifty-four-year-old Donald Manger died after suffering a medical condition while fighting a fire in rural Lyman County on Saturday night. He had served as chief for 23 years, and had 36 years of experience as a firefighter.<\/p>\n

Manger’s funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lyman Gardens in Presho. Daugaard asks that flags be flown at half-staff that day from 8 a.m. until sunset.<\/p>\n

Manger is the 44th firefighter killed in South Dakota since 1924. He’s the 45th South Dakota firefighter to die in the line of duty. David Ruhl of Rapid City died in July 2015 while helping battle a forest fire in California.<\/p>\n

PRESHO, S.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say Presho’s fire chief died over the weekend after experiencing a medical condition while fighting a fire.<\/p>\n

The state Fire Marshal’s Office says 54-year-old Donald Manger exited a vehicle and collapsed at a fire scene in rural Lyman County about 8:50 p.m. Saturday. He was given CPR at the scene and then taken to a Pierre hospital, where he was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

Hickey Funeral Chapel in Chamberlain says Manger’s funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lyman Gardens in Presho, with burial in the Presho Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Presho.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
