Mae Evelyn Neumann, age 100, of Valley City, ND, died Monday, December 4th at Villa Maria in Fargo, ND.A<\/p>\n
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, December 11th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City.<\/p>\n
Visitation will be held on Monday afternoon one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.<\/p>\n
Mae Evelyn “Dolly” Ness, the daughter of Ole and Maebelle (Olson) Ness, was born May 4, 1917 in Galesburg, ND.A<\/p>\n
She acquired her life-long nickname as an infant from her brother who thought she looked like a doll.<\/p>\n
She grew up and attended school in several North Dakota communities, including Pillsbury and Fargo.<\/p>\n
She later graduated from Valley City High School in 1934.A<\/p>\n
She attended beauty school in Fargo and later business school in Billings, MT.<\/p>\n
Dolly worked as a beautician and beauty shop owner\/manager in Valley City.<\/p>\n
Later, she owned and operated restaurants in Valley City including Dolly’s Cafe. Dolly married Lester Pfaff on July 4, 1942 while he was on leave from the Army.<\/p>\n
Lester was listed as Missing in Action in the South Pacific in 1943 and declared dead in 1944.A<\/p>\n
She married Sam Sorenson on October 15, 1946.A<\/p>\n
They divorced in 1954.<\/p>\n
Dolly married Bernard Barney Neumann in 1961.<\/p>\n
They remained together until Barney’s death on April 6, 2001.<\/p>\n
Dolly is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Puklich; two grandchildren, Blayne (Lisa) Puklich and Elyse (Dan) Ketterling; six great-grandchildren, Jackson and Parker Ketterling, and Iris, Tavie, Kira and Finnagan Ketterling.
\nDolly was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Barney.<\/p>\n
