{"id":135713,"date":"2017-12-29T15:29:24","date_gmt":"2017-12-29T21:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=135713"},"modified":"2017-12-30T17:19:17","modified_gmt":"2017-12-30T23:19:17","slug":"winter-safety-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=135713","title":{"rendered":"Winter safety tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-114399\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/newsnowSNOWplowF-300x70.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"70\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/newsnowSNOWplowF-300x70.png 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/newsnowSNOWplowF.png 386w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Stutsman County Assistant Emergency Management\/9-1-1 Coordinator, Kim Franklin reminds resident that with winter\u00a0 here, and\u00a0 as the snow continues to fall and the ice starts to build, there are things to do to help keep your family, home, and neighbors safe.<\/p>\n<p>She points out, that when you go outside to shovel the driveway and clean the sidewalks, finish by applying a layer of ice melt to help prevent refreezing or to melt any packed snow or ice that wasn\u2019t removed.\u00a0 This will assist to keep anyone walking on your property safe from slips and falls.<\/p>\n<p>Consider removing snow and ice from your roof.\u00a0 The weight of deep snow and\/or compacted snow can stress structure of your roof.\u00a0 If gutters and eaves are adorned with icicles, an ice dam may be forming which may possibly prevent snowmelt from draining off of your roof causing water damage in your home.<\/p>\n<p>If snow drifts have built up against the side of your house, they should be cleared around any important vents.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clean away any snow or ice from any exhaust vents and or fresh air intake pipes.\u00a0 This will keep the heat functioning in your home and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.<\/li>\n<li>Clear your dryer vent.\u00a0 If blocked, to prevent a fire in your dryer.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the snow from around all gas, electric, and water meters careful not to damage the meter.\u00a0 Built up snow and ice may cause them to malfunction.\u00a0 Gas meters have vents that if blocked, can cause gas to leak outside your home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Make sure you have a functioning carbon monoxide detector.\u00a0 If you suspect a problem, open doors and windows and leave the home.\u00a0 If you experience any signs or symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Headaches<\/li>\n<li>Nausea<\/li>\n<li>Dizziness<\/li>\n<li>Fatigue<\/li>\n<li>Shortness of Breath<\/li>\n<li>Stinging or burning eyes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Call 911 for help immediately<\/u><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After you are sure that your family is safe, consider visiting any of your neighbors that you feel may need help with some of the outdoor cleanup, and offer to help.<\/p>\n<p>Have a safe and happy New Year,<\/p>\n<p>Stutsman County Emergency Management and Dispatch Center<\/p>\n<p>Kimberly Franklin,<\/p>\n<p>Stutsman County<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Emergency Management\/911 Coordinator<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Stutsman County Assistant Emergency Management\/9-1-1 Coordinator, Kim Franklin reminds resident that with winter\u00a0 here, and\u00a0 as the snow continues to fall and the ice starts to build, there are things to do to help keep your family, home, and neighbors safe.
