Mark Andrew Wanzek was born in Jamestown, ND on October 6, 1934 to Peter and Martha (Pyzick) Wanzek. He died unexpectedly on January 21, 2018. He graduated from St. John\u2019s Academy in 1954.He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 \u2013 1957. Mark and his cousin Marvin joined the U.S. Armytogether. Mark was stationed at Fort Eustis, VA.\u00a0 After leaving the Army, Mark and his brother Raymond farmed north of Windsor, ND. He fell in love and married the love of his life Jean McQuad on November 5, 1958 at the St. James Basilica. Jean and Mark were an incredible couple. They shared in the compassion to help others and a love for sports. Anyone who knew Mark knows he was a self-driven entrepreneur. He worked for Jim\u2019s Mobile Feed with his cousin Kenny and together they<\/p>\n

over the business and created Wanzek Mobile Milling (A feed grinding business.) Mark worked for Melland\u2019s as a mechanic and in 1982, he and his good friend Vern Brown opened Jamestown Truck and Diesel. The tough decision to retire came to Mark due to his health in 2000. However, Mark beat the cancer and continued to be a hard working self-employed entrepreneur. Growing up on a farm south of Windsor, the farm life remained strong in Mark\u2019s heart and he treasured all the time he could doing spring and fall work with his brother Raymond and nephew Kevin and cousins with TMT farms.\u00a0 Many times, if he wasn\u2019t working, he\u2019d just want to check on things out in the field. He looked forward every year for the call they needed him, they wanted him to come to the farm, the excitement gave him an extra pep in his step. Being a Dad, this was something Mark took great pride in. Like everything Mark did he took it very seriously and wanted to do it right. He demonstrated hard work and accepted nothing less from both his sons, Jason and Shawn. Mark also shared his love of sports with his sons. Mark coached them and their friends in baseball and even after long hours at his shop made sure there was time to play catch.<\/p>\n

He and Jean looked forward to watching them play sports. This joy simply continued to grow with the opportunity to watch his grandsons play and his oldest son coach his boys.\u00a0 Mark was filled with pride at how talented his grandsons were. His great grandson brought out his playful side, he read to him and played toy cars, as they ate little cuties oranges.<\/p>\n

He is survived by his by his son, Jason (Joan), their children Tyler, Zachary, Samuel, Bloomington, MN, son, Shawn (Karmel), Jamestown, ND and their children Mitchel (Anna), Ft. Hood, TX and Bradford (Melissa), great grandson Michael, Bismarck, ND; sisters, Mary (Bill) Winberg, Moorhead, MN, Helen\u00a0Seher of Bend, OR, Carol Froemke of Fort Collins, CO; brothers, Stanley, Fargo, ND, Raymond (Annette), Windsor, ND, Tom (Rae), Moorhead, MN; brothers-in-law, Rick Gonser, Long Beach, CA and Neil Falck, Fargo, ND; many nieces and nephews; special<\/p>\n

friends, Patricia and James Romelfanger and Barbara(Jeff) Nuanes-Schempp and their children, Steven, Raymond, Breanna, and Alexius.<\/p>\n

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; an infant son, Christopher; sisters, Patricia Falck, and Rose Gonser; brothers, James and baby brother Joseph; brothers in- law Duane Seher and RDell Froemke; and sisters- in-law, Edna Wanzek and Irene Wanzek.<\/p>\n

Mass of Christian Burial:<\/strong> 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 26, 2018 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, with Monsignor Jeffrey Wald officiating.<\/p>\n

Visitation:<\/strong> 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Vigil:<\/strong> 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown, with Rosary.<\/p>\n

Interment:<\/strong> St. Pauline\u2019s Cemetery, Windsor, ND.<\/p>\n
