LuVerne Dockter, 86, Reno, Nevada, died January 24, 2018, at Renown Hospital, South Meadows, in Reno.<\/p>\n
LuVerne June Kapp was born June 30, 1931 to Louise (Fisher) and William Kapp of Medina, ND.\u00a0 She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the English Lutheran Church in Medina.<\/p>\n
She graduated from Medina High School in 1949.\u00a0 She attended Valley City Teachers College and received a certificate to teach in a one-room country school, and did so for two years.<\/p>\n
LuVerne married Marvin Dockter on August 13, 1950.\u00a0 She joined Marvin at Ft. Campbell Kentucky when he completed his military training that December. She worked part time at a \u201c5 and Dime\u201d store in Clarksville.<\/p>\n
Returning to ND they purchased Marvin\u2019s family farm. They had 2 daughters. They raised animals, as well as raising grain and engaged in farming until selling the farm in April 1964.<\/p>\n
The family moved to Medina where Marvin worked as the rural letter carrier.\u00a0 LuVerne was a full-time mother for 10 years and then worked at Knetter\u2019s Medina Cheese Factory, as bookkeeper, until retiring in 1995.<\/p>\n
LuVerne was active in the community with the UCC church, Sunday School teaching, Ladies Aid, choir, 4-H Leader, member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and Homemakers club, and the MPS Reunion Committee. She became active with the Rural Letter Carrier Association Auxiliary in Stutsman County and North Dakota.\u00a0 She bowled with Marvin on a Sunday night league, and on a Wednesday night ladies league.<\/p>\n
LuVerne enjoyed making things.\u00a0 She embroidered, quilted, learned to knit and crochet and taught her family needlework as well.\u00a0 She also had a knitting machine that she used to make many sweaters and outfits for her grandchildren.<\/p>\n
They enjoyed traveling to visit family and to attend Rural Letter Carrier Conventions all over the US.\u00a0\u00a0 Visits with their daughters in Wyoming and Germany.\u00a0 After retiring they became Snowbirds from ND to Arizona for about 25 years.\u00a0 In 2012 they moved from Medina to an apartment in Jamestown.\u00a0 They enjoyed the camaraderie in that apartment complex, playing cards, having potluck meals and celebrating birthdays with pie, not cake.<\/p>\n
LuVerne was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Raymond (Jean), and Kenneth (Alverta) Kapp.\u00a0 She is survived by husband Marvin Dockter, daughters Cynthia (Terry) Rhiley of Elko, NV, and Bonita (Lynn) Olson, of Reno, NV.\u00a0 Grandchildren Leesa Sandhoff, Elko, Matthew (Donette) Rhiley, Reno, Jessica (Alex) Williams, Colorado Springs, and Jeremy Olson, Reno.\u00a0 Also, by 4 great-grandchildren Dessirae (Christopher) Maroney, Kaitlin and Andrew Phipps, and Zachary Sandhoff all of Elko, NV.<\/p>\n
Visitation will be 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, Friday, February 2 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.\u00a0 Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, February 3 at Zion Congregational United Church of Christ, Medina.\u00a0 Burial will be in Medina Cemetery.<\/p>\n
