JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Police say a North Dakota man severed one of his hands while operating a meat grinder in his garage.<\/p>\n

Jamestown police officers were called to the home of 69-year-old Myron Schlafman on Friday afternoon. They applied a tourniquet to his arm and an ambulance crew took him to a hospital.<\/p>\n

Officers put the severed hand in a special package to keep it cool and free of contamination.<\/p>\n

Police Lt. Robert Opp told The Associated Press that authorities don’t have details on Schlafman’s condition, including whether the hand can be reattached. Jamestown Regional Medical Center hasn’t responded to a request for comment.<\/p>\n

The report says the accident occurred about 12:20-p.m., in his 10th Avenue southeast Jamestown garage.<\/p>\n

Maj. Justin Blinsky\u00a0also says,\u00a0police\u00a0 officers arrived on the scene, and applied a tourniquet to the man\u2019s arm to stop the bleeding.\u00a0 Jamestown Area Ambulance Service responded to the scene and placed the severed hand in a contamination free bag that was kept cool by officers.<\/p>\n

He was transported to JRMC within nine minutes of the call.<\/p>\n

The man’s name was not immediately released.<\/p>\n
