{"id":157608,"date":"2018-11-12T10:08:58","date_gmt":"2018-11-12T16:08:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=157608"},"modified":"2018-11-12T10:09:32","modified_gmt":"2018-11-12T16:09:32","slug":"braelon-and-family-update-daily-life-with-epilepsy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=157608","title":{"rendered":"Braelon and family update,  daily life with epilepsy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_143869\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-143869\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-143869\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/geerdesfamily-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/geerdesfamily-300x202.jpg 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/geerdesfamily-260x175.jpg 260w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/geerdesfamily.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-143869\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">L-R Tara, Braelon, Sharlyn<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month, and making a return visit to The Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, were Sherilyn, Tara, and Braelon Geerdes.<\/p>\n<p>About a year ago, Braelon was diagnosed with \u00a0the neurological disorder.<\/p>\n<p>Braelon is a fifth-grader at St. John&#8217;s Academy, who was in a music class when she was 9-years old when the teacher noticed Braelon\u2019s \u00a0face twitching and eyes rolling back.<\/p>\n<p>That led to the diagnosis of epilepsy and subsequent therapy and a medication regimen.<\/p>\n<p>Her mom, Tara, says, Braelon continues with therapy, and regularly visits a Minnesota Clinic for tests such as EEGs, light tests, and she see a neurologist and neuropsychologist who continue to work with her, and track her progress.<\/p>\n<p>Tara said that Braelon continues with twice daily medications, and has a rescue medication that can be taken when an epileptic event occurs.<\/p>\n<p>She added that a seizure can also occur, not affecting Braelon\u2019s brain, but the symptoms of body shaking are similar.<\/p>\n<p>Tara said the teachers and staff and administration at St. John\u2019s Academy are very support of Braelon, and given her assistance, in the event of a seizure.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out in addition to insurance coverage, a grant has been made, through the efforts and support of St. John\u2019s Academy and St. James Basilica in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Braelon\u00a0 still participates sports, such as softball wearing head protection, and is active in other ways, playing the guitar, and the piano, and she\u00a0 sings at public events.<\/p>\n<p>She was recently invited to a National Epilepsy Foundation event in Denver, where she sang.<\/p>\n<p>Braelon\u2019s Grandmother, Sherilyn Geerdes said, locally events are held to raise additional funds for the Minnesota Epilepsy Foundation, which also serves eastern North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>She says more support in North Dakota is needed, pointing out that 1 in 26 individuals, children and adults, will develop epilepsy.<\/p>\n<p>More information, including how to donate dollars, is on line at www.egmn.org, or by calling 1-800-779-0777.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month, and making a return visit to The Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, were Sherilyn, Tara, and Braelon Geerdes.
