{"id":157723,"date":"2018-11-13T14:56:15","date_gmt":"2018-11-13T20:56:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=157723"},"modified":"2018-11-13T14:56:32","modified_gmt":"2018-11-13T20:56:32","slug":"feral-cat-roundup-continues-humane-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=157723","title":{"rendered":"Feral cat roundup continues, Humane Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-150990\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/JRHS125.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"125\" height=\"125\" \/>Jamestown\u00a0 (JRHS)\u00a0 A better life \u2013 it\u2019s what we all strive for.\u00a0 And, the James River Humane Society is no exception.<\/p>\n<p>This fall, volunteer members, Gary Sahr, Cally Stromberg, Karri Woehl, Camille Kuipers, Sheila Marsalek and Jay Nitschke worked to rescue feral cats and kittens.<\/p>\n<p>These wild cats received veterinary care including being spayed or neutered and receiving rabies shots. They were then placed with local rural families providing them with shelter and care. To date, 20 animals have been placed with seven families.<\/p>\n<p>Why would the Humane Society do this?\u00a0 By relocating the cats from the city limits, it provides them with a safer home, a better chance of survival and reduces the number of homeless animals.<\/p>\n<p>An unsprayed female cat and her offspring can produce two litters per year.\u00a0 With 2.8 kittens surviving per litter, an additional twelve homeless cats are born in the first year becoming 11,606,077 homeless cats in only nine years.<\/p>\n<p>It is the shelter\u2019s hope to continue the program in the spring and fall providing more cats with a better life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (JRHS)\u00a0 A better life \u2013 it\u2019s what we all strive for.\u00a0 And, the James River Humane Society is no exception.
