(Gov. Burgum&#8217;s Office)\u2013 Gov. Doug Burgum, in partnership with the North Dakota Department of Commerce, announced Tuesday the funding for 15 projects totaling $2,331,000 aimed at Main Street development, public facilities and services. The program is funded by federal Community Development Block Grant dollars focusing on long-term community development within cities\u2019 Main Street areas.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese funds will help communities with strategic projects that will strengthen our state\u2019s economy and help create healthy, vibrant communities that can attract and retain a 21st century workforce,\u201d Burgum said. \u201cThis is a key step in our development of building livable communities, addressing unmet community development needs and enhancing local economic development efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Funds were made available in three categories:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Main Street Fund<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Main Street funds are used to rehabilitate building exteriors or streetscape improvements.<\/p>\n<p>Funded projects:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Turtle Lake<\/strong>\u00a0$100,000\n<ul>\n<li>Main Street Market \u2013 New windows and facade improvements<\/li>\n<li>J Arthur\u2019s Flowers and Gifts \u2013 New windows and facade improvements<\/li>\n<li>Turtle Lake Tax Service \u2013 New windows and facade improvements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jamestown<\/strong>\u00a0$100,000\n<ul>\n<li>Orriginals, Inc. \u2013 New windows, facade improvements and brickwork<\/li>\n<li>River Rock Investments \u2013\u00a0 New windows, siding replacement, painting and sidewalk replacement<\/li>\n<li>The Lodge Jamestown \u2013 New windows and handicap accessibility<\/li>\n<li>Babb\u2019s Coffee House \u2013 New windows, exterior facade improvements and handicap accessibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Minto<\/strong>\u00a0$67,500\n<ul>\n<li>Harvey Avenue Saloon \u2013 New windows, doors, siding and signage<\/li>\n<li>Beaver\u2019s Caf\u00e9 \u2013 New windows, doors, siding and signage<\/li>\n<li>Minto Auto \u2013 New windows, doors, siding and signage<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lisbon<\/strong> $100,000\n<ul>\n<li>Hammelton Building \u2013 New windows, doors, brickwork, parking and handicap accessibility<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Public Facility Fund <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Public facility funds are used for the acquisition, construction, reconstruction or installation of public works, facilities or other improvements. Funded projects:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sheridan County\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$35,760 \u2013 Chairlift replacement in county courthouse<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Nelson County<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$294,000 \u2013 Nelson County Health System handicap accessibility improvements<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Minto\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$198,000 \u2013 Wastewater lagoon improvements<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Crystal\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$300,000 \u2013 Crystal Firehall building expansion<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New Salem <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$300,000 \u2013 Infrastructure improvements<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Glen Ullin\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$300,000 \u2013 Water main reconstruction<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Steele County\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$67,845 \u2013 Handicap accessibility in county courthouse<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Towner County<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$20,842 \u2013 Elevator lift installation in Memorial Building<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Maddock<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$41,727 \u2013 Backup generator and water system improvements<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Public Services Fund<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Public services funds, in the form of operational costs, will be made available to existing and new agencies that support programs related to addiction and recovery. Funded projects:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Heartview\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$287,825 \u2013 Operational costs used to furnish a new 24-bed residential treatment program and 15 recovery apartments.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A.D.A.P.T. Inc.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$125,000 \u2013 Operational costs used to alleviate expenses to expand case management services statewide.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Burgum has led the state\u2019s efforts to provide community leaders a direct access point to resources needed to create vibrant communities poised to attract and retain a 21<sup>st<\/sup> century workforce. Working toward those goals, some of the state\u2019s notable Main Street achievements include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Main Street Initiative currently has 61 communities engaged in the initiative and has conducted meetings with 45 communities over the past 15 months. During that time, communities hosting a Main Street meeting report a greater level of engagement from community members of all ages and have seen increased momentum in community improvement efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The first-ever Main Street ND Summit, hosted by the North Dakota Department of Commerce at the Bismarck Event Center, welcomed more than 650 community members, students and state team members. The event focused on developing the three pillars of the Main Street Initiative: a skilled workforce; smart, efficient infrastructure; and healthy, vibrant communities to help North Dakota compete in a 21<sup>st<\/sup> century economy in which rapid technological advancement is changing every job, industry and organization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The 2018 Main Street Awards honored communities for excellence in elevating the three pillars of the Main Street Initiative. Award details can be found at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetnd.com\/awards\">www.mainstreetnd.com\/awards<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>North Dakota\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainstreetnd.com\/resources\/community-dashboard\">Main Street Community Dashboard<\/a>\u00a0was created to support busy community leaders \u2013 some working on a voluntary basis \u2013 hoping to grow healthy, vibrant communities. The dashboard was recognized with a national Government Experience Award from the Center for Digital Government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The North Dakota Main Street Initiative Student Advisory Committee includes 11 students from across the state.
