(AP) &#8211; The man charged with shooting and killing<br \/>\na Bismarck police officer has been sentenced to life in prison.<br \/>\n\u00a0Judge David Reich sentenced Steven Bannister to life in prison without<br \/>\nthe possibility of parole\u00a0 for the July 2011 death of Bismarck Police Sgt. Steve Kenner.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Bannister entered an Alford plea last month in the case.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An Alford plea means a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges<br \/>\nthere is enough evidence to convict him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The plea is treated as a conviction for sentencing purposes.<br \/>\nAuthorities say Bannister shot and killed Kenner when the<br \/>\nofficer responded to a domestic disturbance call.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kenner was the first Bismarck police officer killed in the line of duty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D.
