{"id":166359,"date":"2019-03-04T23:30:26","date_gmt":"2019-03-05T05:30:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=166359"},"modified":"2019-03-05T13:44:39","modified_gmt":"2019-03-05T19:44:39","slug":"monday-crashes-near-medina","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=166359","title":{"rendered":"Monday I-94 crashes near Medina"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Monday March 4th, 2019 at 1:22 pm. a 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Odillio Barrientos Villeda from Portland Oregon was westbound on Interstate 94 west of Medina at a slow speed due to near zero visibility caused by blowing snow.<\/p>\n<p><center><strong>Video by Clarissa Wahl Garrett <\/strong><br \/>\n<center><div style=\"width: 480px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><!--[if lt IE 9]><script>document.createElement('video');<\/script><![endif]-->\n<video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-166359-1\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WOI94.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WOI94.mp4\">http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/WOI94.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A 2016 Freightliner driven by Benjamin Grant from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, slowed to follow the Toyota.\u00a0 A westbound 2014 Freightliner driven by Donald Powel from Mandan, approached from the rear at a higher rate of speed and veered left attempting to avoid a crash but not before side-swiping the rear of Grant\u2019s semi-trailer. Powel\u2019s Freightliner veered back onto the right lane, striking Barrientos Villeda\u2019s Toyota.\u00a0 The Toyota came to rest in the north ditch. The Freightliner came to rest in the north ditch and a westbound lane.\u00a0 Traffic was restricted to one lane for nearly an hour while vehicles and trailers were towed from the scene.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">At\u00a03-p.m., approximately one mile east of\u00a0that crash,\u00a0two snow plows, and two patrol vehicles used flashing lights to slow westbound traffic as it entered a crash scene ahead.\u00a0 Near zero visibility continued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A 2016 Ford Fusion driven by Brad Thingvold from Bismarck, slowed to stop prior to the scene. Thingvold was struck from behind by a 2018 Fusion driven by Thomas Haas from Fargo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As Sheriff Kaiser stood outside of his 2019 Chevrolet Silverado patrol vehicle to direct traffic, a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Traci Kelm from Sioux Falls South Dakota sideswiped the Silverado Patrol Vehicle before rear ending a 1996 Peterbilt driven by Bradley Kupser from Zimmerman Minnesota.\u00a0\u00a0 During the chain of events, Kelm\u2019s Malibu brushed Sheriff Kaiser\u2019s leg as he ran to the median.
