(uj.edu)<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong>&#8212; After falling 9-3 in the first game of Sunday&#8217;s Great Plains Athletic Conference doubleheader against Hastings College, the University of Jamestown baseball team used a strong pitching performance by <a id=\"rosterLink0\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8202.php\">Kensaku Akiya<\/a> (JR\/Kawasaki, Japan) in the nightcap, defeating the Broncos 5-2.<\/p>\n<p>The Jimmies improve to 13-9 overall and 3-3 in the GPAC. Hastings is now 5-12 overall and 2-4 in GPAC action.<\/p>\n<p>UJ and Hastings will meet again Monday in a noon conference doubleheader in Hastings.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Game 1: Hastings 9, Jamestown 3<\/strong><br \/>\nTrailing 3-2 entering the bottom of the sixth, Hastings rallied for seven runs to take a 9-3 victory.<\/p>\n<p>The Broncos struck first, scoring twice in the bottom of the second for a 2-0 lead. Jamestown responded with two runs of their own as <a id=\"rosterLink1\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8181.php\">Tanner Roundy<\/a> (SR\/Henderson, NV) singled home <a id=\"rosterLink2\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8211.php\">Chase Hacker<\/a> (JR\/Millcreek, WA) and <a id=\"rosterLink3\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8179.php\">Jaden Yackley<\/a> (SR\/Lynnwood, Wash.).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"rosterLink4\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8180.php\">Drake Pilat<\/a> (SR\/Winnipeg, MB, Canada)&#8217;s sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth drove in Yackley and gave UJ a 3-2 lead. That lead held up until the Broncos got to Jimmie starter <a id=\"rosterLink5\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8182.php\">Dakota Nelson<\/a> (SR\/Dallas, OR) (2-2) and reliever <a id=\"rosterLink6\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8154.php\">Marshal Burgess<\/a> (SR\/Brandon, MB, Canada) for seven runs in the sixth. Hastings scored five times with two outs, and a UJ error led to two unearned runs.<\/p>\n<p>Roundy and <a id=\"rosterLink7\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8220.php\">Grant Okawa<\/a> (JR\/Mississauga, ON) combined for four of the Jimmies&#8217; five hits. Nelson went 5 1\/3 innings and allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits while striking out three and walking two.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Game 2: Jamestown 5, Hastings 2<\/strong><br \/>\n<a id=\"rosterLink8\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8202.php\">Kensaku Akiya<\/a> tossed seven innings of four-hit ball, allowing just one unearned run while striking out eight as UJ salvaged a split with a 5-2 win.<\/p>\n<p>Akiya improved to 4-0 as he carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning and set a personal best with his eight punchouts.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"rosterLink9\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8180.php\">Drake Pilat<\/a> and <a id=\"rosterLink10\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8179.php\">Jaden Yackley<\/a> had run-scoring singles to give Jamestown a 2-0 lead after two.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"rosterLink11\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8181.php\">Tanner Roundy<\/a> brought in two more runs with a two-out single in the fourth that increased the UJ advantage to 4-0.<\/p>\n<p>The Broncos got on the board in the fifth to make it 4-1, but <a id=\"rosterLink12\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8220.php\">Grant Okawa<\/a> would score on a wild pitch in the eighth to push the lead back to 5-1.<\/p>\n<p>Yackley and Roundy both finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Okawa scored three runs and had three of the Jimmies&#8217; seven stolen bases.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"rosterLink13\" class=\"rosterProfileLink \" href=\"http:\/\/www.jimmieathletics.com\/roster\/19\/3\/8153.php\">Kaleb Binstock<\/a> (SR\/Grand Forks, ND) worked a scoreless ninth for his first save.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HASTINGS, Neb.
