{"id":168440,"date":"2019-03-28T17:57:37","date_gmt":"2019-03-28T22:57:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=168440"},"modified":"2019-03-29T11:24:41","modified_gmt":"2019-03-29T16:24:41","slug":"city-commission-approves-flood-emergency-resolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=168440","title":{"rendered":"VC Commission approves Flood Resolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-127152\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/VCcommission81517b-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/VCcommission81517b-300x202.jpg 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/VCcommission81517b-260x175.jpg 260w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/VCcommission81517b.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi)\u00a0 The Valley City Commission met in Special Session on Thursday evening unanimously \u00a0approving a Resolution to declare a Flood emergency.\u00a0 All members were present.<\/p>\n<p>City Administrator, David Schelkoph said the purpose of the Resolution is prepare paperwork in order to send to state and federal officials, in the event funds are needed in a flood fight.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He said the city\u2019s action is not to increase fear in the community on possible flooding.<\/p>\n<p>He said the projected flood stage on the Sheyenne in Valley City is 13 to 16 and a half feet adding the level \u00a0depends on rainfall amounts and the progress of the snow melt.<\/p>\n<p>He said major flood stage is 17 feet, moderate flood stage is 16 feet, and flood prevention action kicks in at 15 feet.\u00a0 At a river level of 16 feet, about 10,000 sandbags would be needed for additional protection.<\/p>\n<p>He said city officials are preparing for any possible flooding as there is a significant amount of water in the water shed north of Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>He added that Lake Ashtabula has significant capacity to handle inflows as of Friday morning , at 1257.90 feet.
