(AP) \u2013 A power plant company is considering burying oil field waste in a mostly empty coal ash pit near Underwood.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nGreat River Energy is holding meetings this week with area residents about a possible state permit application to handle up to 300,000 tons of oil field waste annually.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Great River Energy operates the Coal Creek Station plant near Underwood. Spokesman Al Christianson says the company\u2019s board is only studying the project and has not formally applied to the state Health Department to change its waste disposal permit.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Waste Management Director Scott Radig says Great River Energy has submitted a pre-application, which outlines the general concept.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNDERWOOD, N.D.
