Ortiz was flown to Boston on Monday in an air ambulance provided by the Red Sox after doctors removed his gallbladder and part of his intestine. L\u00f3pez said the 43-year-old athlete\u2019s liver was also damaged in Sunday night\u2019s shooting.<\/p>\n
Police have said the driver of the motorcycle carrying the gunman was captured and beaten by a crowd of people at the bar. The gunman has not been arrested, and police say they do not yet have a motive.<\/p>\n

Dominican National Police say Ortiz was at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo Sunday evening when a gunman approached from behind and shot him at close range. Police say Ortiz was taken to a local hospital where he underwent surgery, and that his condition was stable.<\/p>\n
Ortiz’s father told reporters outside the hospital that his son was out of danger and there wasn’t any collateral damage, meaning no damage to major organs. He said he had no idea why someone would have shot at his son.<\/p>\n
