{"id":182875,"date":"2019-10-17T13:38:03","date_gmt":"2019-10-17T18:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=182875"},"modified":"2019-10-17T15:02:45","modified_gmt":"2019-10-17T20:02:45","slug":"tourism-funds-promotion-capital-construction-requests","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=182875","title":{"rendered":"Tourism Funds, Granted, Capital Construction"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown Tourism, City Promotion, Capital Construction Fund meeting was held Thursday, at the CSi Technology Center, at Historic Franklin School.<\/p>\n<p>Members present included:\u00a0 President Matt Woods, Tena Lawrence, Frank Balak, and Paulette Ritter.<\/p>\n<p>Ex Officio Members,\u00a0 Pam Phillips Jamestown City Council, Emily Bivens Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n<p>Tourism Director, Searle Swedlund.<\/p>\n<p>No Conflicts of Interest\u2026\u2026None were voted to accept.<\/p>\n<p>The Goals and Objectives of Capital Construction Fund were outlined.<\/p>\n<p>Each March 1<sup>st<\/sup> and October 1<sup>st<\/sup> the grant requests are due.<\/p>\n<p>The Funds are city-held and represent an allocation of 20-percent of the restaurant\u00a0 tax funds collected.\u00a0 The goal for this meeting is to allocate $40,000.<\/p>\n<p>Making presentations were:<\/p>\n<p>Fort Seward \u2013 Civil War Camping represented by Jennie Marks, Meggan Smith<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-146708\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/FortSeward-akaFortCross1-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/FortSeward-akaFortCross1-300x202.jpg 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/FortSeward-akaFortCross1-260x175.jpg 260w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/FortSeward-akaFortCross1.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The request is for\u00a0 $15,226.05, as Fort Seward wants to offer guests a one of a kind experience, by having the site be the first in the area to offer a \u201cGlamping Site.\u201d\u00a0 Each site will be furnished with authentic 1870\u2019s gear, ensuring a unique experience, while learning some of the historic locations. Modern amenities will be included, including shower facilities.\u00a0 Three to four \u00a0\u201cSibley Tents,\u201d are in the plans, built on a platform, which will be furnished.<\/p>\n<p>The site will be open 12 weeks , with the rent between $20 and $30 per night.<\/p>\n<p>The economic impact is $154,000, if fully rented over the 12 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The board approved, $13,703<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-178323\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/1883CourthouseConcert-300x202.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/1883CourthouseConcert-300x202.png 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/1883CourthouseConcert-260x175.png 260w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/1883CourthouseConcert.png 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse \u2013 Citizenship Exhibit represented by Robert Hanna, State Historical Society, Site Manager, from Bismarck, requested $26,795 for the Courthouse Citizenship Exhibit, to help make the 1883 Courthouse the first museum in the United States specifically addressing the exercise of citizenship.\u00a0 Specified rooms in the courthouse will contain various aspects of citizenship.\u00a0\u00a0 The exhibit dedication and Open House is Planned for May of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The Board approved, $24,115.<\/p>\n<p>Jack Brown Stadium \u2013 First Base Bleachers project, represented by Doug Hogan, requested an additional $50,000, for the bleachers, and press box. Other funding is $145,000 from Jamestown Parks and Recreation, Plus private donations.<\/p>\n<p>It was noted that at the March meeting this year, the board allocated $20,000 toward the bleacher project, and asked Jamestown Parks and Recreation to return to the October allocation meeting.<\/p>\n<p>The current bleachers and press box were originally built in the 1960\u2019s, and now present safety concerns.\u00a0 The new bleachers will be raised, and ADA accessible.\u00a0 It related to tourism because the stadium hosts\u00a0 regional conference, state and regional tournaments, at the high school and college level, along with state invitational tournament, amateur, American Legion, Babe Ruth, tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>The improvements allow Jamestown to compete with larger cities to host the tournaments on a rotational basis.<\/p>\n<p>The project is slated to start this fall, with completion anticipated in the spring of 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The board approved funding $1,200, noting other funding sources, and that it is not a \u201cnew\u201d visitors experience.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown Tourism, City Promotion, Capital Construction Fund meeting was held Thursday, at the CSi Technology Center, at Historic Franklin School.
