(AP Jun 14, 2013) &#8211; A group of Griggs County residents has submitted petitions seeking to recall the five members of the County Commission over plans to replace the aging courthouse.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The commission last month voted to build a $3.5 million courthouse, despite voters rejecting the idea three times in a span of 14 months. Commissioners say they&#8217;re not raising taxes to pay for the project.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 But some county residents want to save the 130-year-old building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 County Auditor Cindy Anton says \u00a0it could take up to a month to verify the recall petition signatures.<\/p>\n<p>Previoulsy&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>COOPERSTOWN, N.D. (AP May 13, 2013) \u2013 Some Griggs County residents plan to circulate recall petitions against all five county commissioners.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The move is to protest the commission\u2019s recent decision to build a $3.5 million courthouse \u2013 despite voters rejecting the idea three times in a span of 14 months.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cooperstown resident John Wakefield\u00a0says\u00a0\u00a0he\u2019s disgusted that the commission has gone against the will of the voters.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Commission Chairman Ron Halvorson says the county will not have to raise taxes to fund the project. County officials also say necessary upgrades to the existing courthouse are too costly to justify.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The courthouse is nearly 130 years old and the oldest active courthouse in North Dakota.
