One of the top 100 women in manufacturing across the USA (as recognized by the Manufacturers Institute), winner of the North Dakota Exporter of the Year award and several other global recognitions to her belt, Tamara Somerville is a devoted champion and modern-day icon of women in leadership. This is one iron lady who travelled the world and fought her through in a male dominant industry to put North Dakota on the map. A single mother to two, a loving daughter and sister, Tamara Somerville knows all too well how to fight the odds and push the envelope. She started off as a feisty stock broker in Florida in 1985, and made headways for nine years, before returning home to Cooperstown in 1993 to take over the family business and drive the global expansion of her father’s (Dean Somerville’s) innovative creation. The Cage became the Key – and so began the legends of Posi Lock Pullers. Under Tamara’s leadership, Posi Lock became the undisputed global leader in the power transmission and motion control (PT/MC) industry for heavy weight pullers. In 2002, she brought home the Export Achievement award by the U.S. Department of Commerce for its successful export activity. At that time only 13 companies in the USA had received this covetable award. Posi Lock was the first company in North Dakota to be recognized for this honor. Over her career, she helped Posi Lock win Prairie Business Top 50 businesses to work for; SBA Exporter of the Year Award; Prairie Business Top 25 Women in Business, and much more.
