Jamestown\u00a0 (uj.edu<\/a>) The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team found themselves in an early hole Monday night against Northwestern ( Iowa) College, but rallied back to tie the game after three quarters only to have the Red Raiders pull away for a 77-70 win at Harold Newman Arena.<\/p>\n The Red Raiders (15-9 overall, 10-9 Great Plains Athletic Conference)\u00a0opened up a 19-3 lead just over six minutes into the game, and took 21-point leads on two separate occasions in the second quarter.<\/p>\n Jamestown (16-11, 9-10 GPAC) closed the half on a 13-4 run to trail 39-27 at the break, then opened the second half on a 15-4 run to make it a one-point game with 3:33 remaining in the third.<\/p>\n A pair of Mackensi Higlin<\/a> (JR\/Mandan, ND) free throws brought the Jimmies within 51-50 at the 9:18 mark, but two Taylor VanderVelde free throws and three-pointers by Devyn Kemble and Bre Schuiteman pushed the lead back to nine.<\/p>\n UJ got as close as four points after Noelle Josephson<\/a> (SO\/Ramsey, MN) made a three-pointer with 2:14 to play. The Red Raiders went five-for-six at the foul line down the stretch to seal the victory.<\/p>\n Macy Nilsen<\/a> (FR\/Edina, MN) had a career-high 16 points off the bench to pace Jamestown. Josephson was also in double figures with 13. Nilsen and Josephson both went 3-of-4 from three-point range. Hannah DeMars<\/a> (FR\/Grand Rapids, MN) pulled down a team-best seven rebounds while Kia Tower<\/a> (FR\/Bigfork, MN) dished out four assists.<\/p>\n Northwestern was led by Kemble’s game-high 26. VanderVelde added 17 points and eight boards. Sammy Blum chipped in with 11.<\/p>\n The Jimmies travel to Sioux City, Iowa, to face Morningside College at 2 p.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n UJ Men<\/p>\n Jamestown\u00a0 (uj.edu)<\/a>\u00a0 A 7-0 run over 2:27 in the second half proved to be the difference Monday night as Northwestern (Iowa) defeated the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team 101-98 at Harold Newman Arena.<\/p>\n The Jimmies (18-9 overall, 9-8 Great Plains Athletic Conference)\u00a0led 46-44 at the half, but the Red Raiders opened the second on a 5-0 run, holding\u00a0onto the lead until Isaiah Dobson<\/a> (SR\/Stillwater, MN)’s basket tied the game at 63 with 12:21 to play.<\/p>\n Terrell Alfred<\/a> (SR\/Orlando, FL) and Jack Talley<\/a> (JR\/Sioux Falls, SD) each knocked down three-pointers as UJ went ahead 69-65 at the 11:08 mark.<\/p>\n After Northwestern (19-8, 11-6 GPAC) came back to tie the game at 69 with 10:28 remaining, there were 10 lead changes and four ties until the Red Raiders took the lead for good on Craig Sterk’s three-pointer made it 88-87.<\/p>\n Dobson made things interesting for UJ in the final 32 seconds, knocking down threes on three straight trips down the floor as the Jimmies trailed by just a point at 99-98 with eight seconds remaining.<\/p>\n Both teams shot the ball well, with Jamestown hitting 57.6 percent (38-of-66) overall and Northwestern 57.4 percent (35-of-61). The Jimmies made 15 of their 29 three-point attempts while the Red Raiders were good on 13 of 33 from beyond the arc.<\/p>\n Dobson led all scorers with 28 points, including 6-of-10 from three-point range. Alfred finished with 22 and Jack Talley<\/a> 18. Brady Birch<\/a> (JR\/Melrose, MN) just missed a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down nine rebounds.
