{"id":204694,"date":"2020-07-29T08:19:31","date_gmt":"2020-07-29T13:19:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=204694"},"modified":"2020-07-30T07:21:58","modified_gmt":"2020-07-30T12:21:58","slug":"uj-2020-block-party-cancelled-covid-19-concerns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=204694","title":{"rendered":"UJ 2020 Block Party Cancelled, COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-53305\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/blockparty2014c-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/blockparty2014c-300x202.jpg 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/blockparty2014c-259x175.jpg 259w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/blockparty2014c.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Jamestown\u00a0 (UJ)\u00a0 \u00a0Due to COVID-19, UJ representatives announced that they will have to cancel the 2020 Community Block Party due to safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile this is a great event with tremendous community support and having record attendance last year, with the current pandemic, the University of Jamestown feels the cancellation of this year\u2019s event is what is in the best interest of our students and the community,\u201d explained Trish Herzig, Associate Director of Residence Life &amp; Conference Services Coordinator. \u201cAll incoming new students will receive a copy of the <em>Jamestown Area Source Guide<\/em>, a publication of Jamestown Tourism and <em>The Jamestown Sun<\/em>, that will serve as a resource for what our community has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Community Block Party, which was originally created as a way to engage new students coming to UJ with the Jamestown community, would have been on its 13<sup>th<\/sup> year. \u201cWe are extremely saddened that we can&#8217;t hold this great get-together, but also mindful of the risks it could entail,\u201d said Lynn Lambrecht, President of the Jamestown Downtown Association. \u201cThis annual event has become a rite of passage for our newest Jamestown citizens each fall and a touchpoint for our community to come together and introduce ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With vendor booths lining 1<sup>st<\/sup> Avenue in downtown Jamestown, the annual block party facilitated introductions to various churches, businesses, organizations and service groups that most students would likely never know about.
