Jamestown \u00a0 (NDDOT) \u2013 The NDDOT informs residents that construction\u00a0 will begin on Monday, October 5, at 5th Street Northwest in Jamestown, with traffic changes in the Road Diet project.<\/p>\nConstruction will start at US\/52 5th St NW to from 7th Ave NW to 1st Ave N just east of the James River Bridge; and from 1st Ave N from 5th St W to 8th Street S.<\/p>\n
The project will include pavement markings and sign installation. During the project, crews will remove existing pavement markings and then replace them. The new markings will help shift traffic flow through downtown Jamestown from four lanes to two lanes with an addition of a center turning lane.<\/p>\n
During Construction<\/strong><\/p>\n

(VCPS) \u2013Valley City Public Schools Supt Josh Johnson is updating safe guidelines.\u00a0 Updates are:<\/p>\nND Governor Burgum provided clear guidance to schools with regards to masks and social distance in a concerted effort to decrease the number of students identified as close contacts and thus placed in quarantine. This guidance clearly stated;<\/p>\n
\u201d When the positive case and close contact have both been wearing face covering consistently and correctly for the entire time, the close contact will not need to self-quarantine at home.\u201d<\/p>\n
The definition and guidance of being identified as a close contact (within six feet for more than 15 minutes) has not changed. Therefore, if anyone is within six feet of another individual within our school, they MUST be wearing a face mask. The only exceptions to these directives are when individuals (students and staff) are eating breakfast, lunch, snack breaks, and participating in physical activity (i.e. P.E and sports). In these situations, individuals within six feet from another individual who is identified as positive will be considered as a close contact and required to quarantine following NDDoH guidelines. We cannot be placing our students into quarantine because individuals (students and staff) choose to not follow these guidelines.<\/p>\n
We understand that this new policy will require that students and staff members will be wearing masks more than they were before the new guidelines. Please know that mask breaks will be provided for students during the school day. Thank you for continuing to work together to allow our students to stay healthy and also have the opportunity to learn face-to-face with their peers and teachers in our schools.<\/p>\n

\nBismarck\u00a0 (CSi) \u2013 President Donald Trump has approved Gov. Doug Burgum\u2019s request<\/a> for a presidential major disaster declaration for the impacts of a severe summer storm that caused flash flooding in several counties and resulted in more than $5 million in damage to roads and other infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The declaration<\/a> covers six counties: Benson, Grand Forks, McKenzie, Mountrail, Nelson and Wells. The June 29-July 1 storm destroyed infrastructure and damaged homes with high winds, hail and 4 to 8 inches of rain in some areas. Many of the counties were also pummeled by previous disasters that produced catastrophic flooding during the last two years.<\/p>\n
The presidential declaration unlocks public assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help cities, counties and townships pay for the costs of repairing roads and other infrastructure. Preliminary assessments indicate damage to local infrastructure systems exceeded $2.25 million, and damage to the state\u2019s Federal Aid System highways totaled nearly $2.9 million.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate President Trump and FEMA granting our request and making assistance available to help our local jurisdictions recover from this storm, which washed out roads, damaged bridges and railroad tracks, flooded basements, swamped fields and pastures and knocked out power to thousands of North Dakotans,\u201d Burgum said.<\/p>\n
Friday\u2019s declaration also makes all areas of the state eligible for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program to help communities pay for projects that increase resiliency and reduce costs in the long run.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (JRMC) \u00a0<\/strong> Sometimes, we are our own barrier to care.<\/p>\nSince 2015, Central Valley Health and Jamestown Regional Medical Center have collaborated to reduce barriers for women\u2019s health. In that time, more than 100 women have received 3D mammograms and preventative services they otherwise wouldn\u2019t have due to time, finances, transportation or lack of insurance coverage.<\/p>\n
The program is called No Excuses and funding from R.M. Stoudt\u2019s annual Running of the Pink event supports it. In the 13 years of ROP, R.M. Stoudt has raised more than $130,000 for women\u2019s care in this community.<\/p>\n
JRMC and No Excuses offers 3D mammograms, which are unique in some communities. The 3D image gives a clearer and more accurate picture of the breast \u2013 meaning doctors can detect cancer faster.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy offering women the latest technology in mammography, JRMC hopes to increase the number of area women who will be routinely screened,\u201d said Trisha Jungels, JRMC Chief Nursing Officer.<\/p>\n
At any given time, more than 1,300 Stutsman County women are not up to date on their screenings.<\/p>\n
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women, exceeded only by lung cancer. Statistics indicate that one in eight women will develop breast cancer sometime in her lifetime. The stage at which breast cancer is detected influences a woman\u2019s chance of survival. If detected early, the five-year survival rate is 98%.<\/p>\n
One in eight women will receive a breast cancer diagnosis in her lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society. Catching it early can mean the difference between keeping the breast or needing surgery to remove it.<\/p>\n
Knowing that support and encouragement is often a barrier to care, JRMC and Central Valley are offering No Excuses days to the general public.<\/p>\n
No Excuses isn\u2019t just for women who can\u2019t afford it. Busy moms, grandmothers and professionals are also worthy candidates.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you\u2019ve never had a mammogram, or it\u2019s been a long time, you are definitely the woman we are looking for,\u201d said Robin Iszler, registered nurse and unit administrator at Central Valley Health.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Officials say a lawsuit that has held up construction of a Red River diversion project in the Fargo and Moorhead, Minnesota area could be settled out of court. Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney says the Fargo-Moorhead Diversion Authority plans to meet next week with the Richland-Wilkin Joint Powers Authority, a group of upstream residents who have argued that the project will lead to more flooding on their land. Mahoney tells KFGO radio that the diversion board voted in executive session to offer a settlement. Richland-Wilkin Joint Powers Authority board member Nathan Berseth said he believes the diversion authority will make some type of financial offer to address the concerns of his group and landowners in the southern valley.<\/p>\n
WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Williston man has been sentenced to 3 1\/2 years in prison in the death of his infant son last year. Tank McMillin was also ordered Thursday to serve 5 years of probation. He\u2019ll get credit for 1 1\/2 years he\u2019s already spent behind bars. McMillin earlier pleaded guilty to felony child abuse in April 2019 death of 1-month-old son. The baby was found not breathing under some pillows in a hotel room. The baby had bruising to his abdomen, back, sides, upper buttocks and feet, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Northwest District Court. Prosecutors have charged the baby\u2019s mother, Hannah McMillin with murder. She\u2019s jailed pending her trial.<\/p>\n

(UJ<\/a>) A three-run first inning provided the necessary offense while Dru Fitz<\/a> (SR\/Gresham, OR) allowed just one run over five innings Sunday as the University of Jamestown baseball team defeated Valley City State (N.D.) University 7-1 at Jack Brown Stadium.<\/p>\n
It was the final game of the fall for UJ, which improves its record to 2-4. The Vikings fall to 3-3.<\/p>\n
Kendall Yackley<\/a> (SO\/Lynnwood, WA) (wild pitch) and Grant Okawa<\/a> (SR\/Mississauga, ON) (passed ball) scored for UJ without the benefit of a hit. Matt Meraz<\/a> (SR\/Aurora, CO) made it 3-0 with a single scoring Tayler Cullen<\/a> (JR\/Santa Rosa, Calif.).<\/p>\n

UJ tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth as Tanner Shepard<\/a> (JR\/Grand Rapids, MN), Brian Rice<\/a> (JR\/Vancouver, WA), and Nolan Turin<\/a> (SO\/Sandy, OR) all crossed the plate.<\/p>\n
Fitz, who allowed five hits in his five innings of work, struck out three and walked one, and was boosted by a strong effort from the bullpen. Cameron Multer<\/a> (FR\/Greeley, CO) struck out five in three innings, while Aaron Pugh<\/a> (SR\/Boissevain, MB, Canada) retired the side in order in the top of the ninth. VCSU’s last hit came with two outs in the fifth, and Jimmie pitchers retired the next 14 hitters.<\/p>\n

SEWARD, Neb.\u00a0 (UJ)<\/a> \u2014 The Concordia (Neb.) University Bulldogs racked up 462 yards of total offense and kept the University of Jamestown football team out of the end zone Saturday in a 23-3 win.<\/p>\n
The loss was the season opener for the Jimmies, while Concordia improves to 4-0 on the year.<\/p>\n
UJ saw its first drive end in a fumble, which the Bulldogs converted into a 30-yard field goal by Jordan Spilinek and a 3-0 lead with 12:22 in the opening quarter.<\/p>\n
After both teams traded punts on their next two drives, Jamestown capped a 12-play, 92-yard drive with a 21-yard Noah Vogelpohl<\/a> (FR\/Dayton, Minn.) field goal to make it 3-3 with 1:07 left in the first.<\/p>\n
The only scoring in the second quarter came on a 17-yard pass from Blake Culbert to Cayden Beran with 4:58 before halftime, pushing Concordia\u2019s lead to 10-3.<\/p>\n
Three of Jamestown\u2019s second-quarter drives ended in punts and the Jimmies managed just 12 total yards in the quarter.<\/p>\n
Culbert tossed two more touchdowns in the third quarter, nine yards to Cole Schaedel, and 41 yards to Korrell Koehlmoos, as the lead grew to 23-3.<\/p>\n
Neither team scored in the final 15 minutes, although the Jimmies had a 13-play, 56-yard drive into the red zone halted on downs.<\/p>\n
Quarterback Cade Torgerson<\/a> (JR\/Billings, Mont.) had a career day in the loss, completing 23-of-42 passes for 220 yards, but was sacked seven times.<\/p>\n
Garrett Mitchell<\/a> (JR\/Shakopee, Minn.) caught six passes for 73 yards while Marcus Giles<\/a> (JR\/Coon Rapids, Minn.) ended with five grabs for 57 yards.<\/p>\n
UJ managed just 45 yards on the ground on 28 carries, with Frankie Ingraldi<\/a> (FR\/Colorado Springs, Colo.) leading the way with 27 yards on six rushes.<\/p>\n
Aaron Mack<\/a> (SO\/Jamestown, N.D.) led the defense with 13 total tackles, a career-best. Cedric Terry<\/a> (SR\/Minneapolis, Minn.) added a career-high nine tackles, including eight solo. John Sullivan<\/a> (JR\/Sundance, Wyo.) and Brooks Canfield<\/a> (SO\/Tempe, Ariz.) combined for UJ\u2019s only sack of the game. \nThe University of Jamestown women\u2019s volleyball team took care of Briar Cliff (Iowa) University in three sets Saturday at Harold Newman Arena, defeating the Chargers 25-6, 25-21, and 25-16.<\/p>\n
The Jimmies improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference.<\/p>\n
Once again balance was the name of the game for UJ offensively. Six players finished with six or more kills, led by Corina Huff<\/a> (SR\/Breezy Point, Minn.)\u2019s 11. Huff also hit a team-best .625, with just one error in 16 attempts.<\/p>\n

The Vikings trailed the V-Hawks early but held onto 10 ties throughout the first set as the two battled for the early advantage. At 20-20, the V-Hawks scored five straight points capped by an ace from Adrianna Reinhart to take the first set 25-20.

Valley City State continued to battle early in the third set, holding onto a 7-7 tie with Viterbo. The V-Hawks started to pull away, gaining a 17-12 lead until a Katie Juarez<\/a> kill sparked a short run for the Vikings to get back within two at 17-15. The V-Hawks found the momentum to get all the way to set-point at 24-18 but a kill from Maara Nelson<\/a> held it up. Kenzie Winker led the V-Hawks with a double-double Saturday, collecting 14 kills and 11 digs.. Chloe Jakscht added 13 assists and 10 digs, while Lauryn Sobasky tallied 17 assists and seven digs. Libero Adrianna Reinhart tallied 17 digs for the V-Hawks.<\/p>\n

(UJ)<\/a> A 78th-minute goal proved to be the margin of difference Saturday as Northwestern (Iowa) College defeated the University of Jamestown women\u2019s soccer team at the Jimmie Turf Field.<\/p>\nThe Jimmies fall to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Northwestern won its first match of the season and is now 1-3-1 overall and 1-3 in the GPAC.<\/p>\n
Jamestown is back in action Wednesday hosting Presentation (S.D.) College at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n
Emily Hurley gave NWC a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute with her first goal of the season.<\/p>\n
Neither team found much offensive consistency in the first half. The Jimmies had three shots to Northwestern\u2019s one, with all being on target.<\/p>\n
In the 34th minute, UJ tied the match on a goal by Karlie Hintze<\/a> (SO\/Herald, Calif.). Kamryn Fiscus<\/a> (SO\/Yakima, Wash.)\u2019 free kick deflected off of Hintze into the net for the equalizer.<\/p>\n
Northwestern broke the tie in the 78th minute with Katie Jacob\u2019s goal.<\/p>\n
The Jimmies pressed forward in the final five minutes, but had just one quality scoring chance, a shot by Claire Struble<\/a> (JR\/Murrieta, Calif.) that went wide of goal.<\/p>\n
