{"id":213491,"date":"2020-11-23T07:30:16","date_gmt":"2020-11-23T13:30:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=213491"},"modified":"2020-11-23T15:27:20","modified_gmt":"2020-11-23T21:27:20","slug":"eugene-gene-cysewski-november-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=213491","title":{"rendered":"Eugene &#8220;Gene&#8221; Cysewski, November 20"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eugene &#8220;Gene&#8221; Cysewski, 90, of Courtenay,ND passed away Friday November 20, at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Gene was born March 10, 1930 in Jamestown, ND to Joseph and Agnes (Wozny) Cysewski. \u00a0He graduated from St John\u2019s Academy, Jamestown, ND and went into farming with his father, which\u00a0was interrupted by\u00a0a 2 year\u00a0service in the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1953.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">He married Joan Wanzek of Windsor, ND on October 13, 1954\u00a0at St James Catholic Church in Jamestown\u00a0and they made their home\u00a0a quarter mile away from the Cysewski home farm near Courtenay\u00a0where they lived for over 50 years. \u00a0Gene\u00a0farmed\u00a0first with his father and later with his son David and his grandson Paul until his retirement in 2011.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">Gene\u00a0had a\u00a0passionate\u00a0life-long\u00a0love\u00a0of farming, deeply involved\u00a0with all aspects of it, from the\u00a0long hours of\u00a0physical work to\u00a0detailed record keeping of acres planted, yields\u00a0and cost-per-acre.\u00a0He handled all the accounting work\u00a0not only for his own personal accounts, but also those for his parents, his aunt,\u00a0and the\u00a0corporate and partnership\u00a0farming operations.\u00a0The Sunday drives\u00a0home from church always\u00a0took the long \u201cscenic\u201d route to inspect crops\u00a0in the area fields or\u00a0tour the implement dealer lots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">He was a talented, self-taught carpenter,\u00a0whose first large project was moving\u00a0an old farmhouse to the homestead\u00a0and\u00a0entirely\u00a0remodeling\u00a0it for the family home.\u00a0He\u00a0helped with woodwork repair at church and\u00a0built cabinetry\u00a0and bookcases\u00a0for\u00a0family and neighbors. \u00a0Using plans from Popular\u00a0Science\u00a0magazine, he built\u00a0a\u00a0small-scale\u00a0pool table and\u00a0converted an accordion\u00a0into an organ, which is\u00a0now\u00a0installed at Ave Maria\u00a0Village.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\u00a0As\u00a0a member of St Boniface Catholic Church in Wimbledon,\u00a0he sang\u00a0in the choir\u00a0and\u00a0served\u00a0church suppers\u00a0for many years. \u00a0He\u00a0was active in the community\u00a0and\u00a0served on the Clementsville elevator board for 29 years,\u00a0held the office of\u00a0Gray Township Clerk for 53 years, and\u00a0was\u00a0a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">\u00a0Gene is survived by two daughters, Jayne (Bill) McDowell, San Diego, CA and Barb (Walter) Cornejo, Brisbane, CA; son David (Lucille) Cysewski, Spiritwood Lake, ND; three grandchildren, Paul Cysewski, Courtenay, ND, Eric Cysewski, Courtenay, ND and Tania (Matt) Legge, Spiritwood, ND; six great grandchildren,\u00a0two\u00a0sisters, \u00a0Sylvia (Chuck) Woldum, Bloomington, MN and Angela (Jim) Madsen, Jamestown, ND and one brother John Thomas (Evonne) Cysewski, Billings, MT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">In addition to his parents,\u00a0sister Marjorie,\u00a0and several brothers-and-sisters-in-law,\u00a0Gene\u00a0was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Jay,\u00a0and\u00a0wife Joan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\">Gene\u2019s life will be celebrated with a\u00a0funeral mass\u00a0and burial\u00a0at a later date.\u00a0\u00a0In lieu of\u00a0flowers, monetary donations can be made to Heritage Center in Jamestown\u00a0or St Boniface Catholic Church in Wimbledon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eugene &#8220;Gene&#8221; Cysewski, 90, of Courtenay,ND passed away Friday November 20, at Ave Maria Village in Jamestown.
