Eugene \u201cGene\u201d Undem, 85, Valley City, ND formerly of Dazey, ND passed away at Mercy Hospital in Valley City on December 14, 2020.\u00a0 The funeral service for Gene will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 17, 2020 at New Life Assembly of God Church in Valley City. \u00a0Visitation will be the hour prior to the service.\u00a0 Please note that regulations regarding COVID 19 will be followed, masks will be required and seating will be limited.\u00a0 The funeral will be live streamed then archived and can be viewed along with his obituary and tribute page at www.lerudschuldt.com<\/a><\/p>\n

Eugene Undem was born February 6, 1935 in Rogers, ND to Christ and Helen (Young) Undem.\u00a0 Gene worked on the farm before being drafted into the US Army in 1956.\u00a0 He was stationed in Ft. Bragg, North Carolina and was a member of the pistol team.\u00a0 Following his discharge, he worked in Seattle for a winter and purchased a \u201957 Chevy convertible (his dream!).<\/p>\n

Gene was back working with his dad when on March 14, 1959 he married Delores \u201cDee\u201d Haakenson.\u00a0 They established a home on his grandfather\u2019s former home.\u00a0 He was often seen riding around on a motor cycle throughout his life.<\/p>\n

He enjoyed hunting with bow and gun.\u00a0 Because he liked music and wanted to learn, he drove to Fargo, ND with a couple of his friends and took guitar lessons.\u00a0 After that, he was able to teach himself to play other musical instruments and enjoyed joining with friends for jam sessions.\u00a0 Gene has a wide collection of instruments.\u00a0 Although he liked all genres of music, bluegrass was his first choice.\u00a0 Besides playing, he sang with a quartet.<\/p>\n

Gene is survived by his wife, Delores \u201dDee\u201d; brother, Jerry (Carolyn) Undem of Cody, WI; niece, Tiffany (Tim) Goeke of Colorado; nephews, Randall (Liza) Elliott of Bismarck, ND and Dale (Linda) Elliott of Valley City.<\/p>\n

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, June Elliott; and niece, Dawn Elliott.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
