BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The North Dakota Department of Health has reported two suspected severe allergic reactions to the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. The two people had no history of anaphylactic reactions. The incidents were unrelated. Neither person was hospitalized, and the two have since recovered. The allergic reactions occurred during a 15-minute post-vaccine observation period recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. State health officials said anaphylactic reactions after being vaccinated are rare. For other vaccines, they occur at a rate of one per 1 million doses.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/allvetsclub-300x202.jpg\")

Valley City Rural Fire District Chief Scott Magnuson said heat from a wood stove caused material near the rafters of the garage to burn. Smoke was visible as firefighters arrived on the scene.<\/p>\n
No injuries reported.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Michigan man has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty in North Dakota to a federal drug charge. The Bismarck Tribune reports Michael Sinnawi, was arrested in August 2019 at a Bismarck motel. He and two other men were in possession of 450 oxycodone pills and $45,000 in cash. Police also found four cellphones in the room, and text messages on the phones showed that they were selling the pills. The two other men arrested in the case, including Sinnawi\u2019s father, are scheduled for change of plea and sentencing hearings on Feb. 22.<\/p>\n

HILL CITY, Minn. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say man who died while working on a pipeline project in northern Minnesota was run over by a large forklift. The Aitkin County Sheriff\u2019s Office has preliminarily ruled that the death of Jorge Villafuerte III at the Enbridge Energy Line 3 construction site was an accident. It happened in the predawn hours of Dec. 18 while Villafuerte was checking a list of materials while standing behind an industrial forklift. As the forklift started backing up, a co-worker jumped out of the way but Villafuerte was struck by the rear passenger tire, according. The 45-year-old Villafuerte was dead by the time emergency responders arrived at about 7:17 a.m.. The Star Tribune reports that he leaves behind nine children.<\/p>\n

Becky Hammon made history by becoming the first woman to serve as head coach in an NBA game.<\/p>\n
Hammon took over when Gregg Popovich was ejected in the second quarter of the Spurs\u2019 121-107 loss to the Lakers. As he exited the court, Popovich pointed a finger at Hammon and had a succinct message for his assistant coach: \u201cYou got \u2019em.\u201d<\/p>\n

Browns\u2019 COVID-19 list grows<\/p>\n
UNDATED (AP) \u2014 The Cleveland Browns\u2019 number of COVID-19 cases continues to grow as they prepare for a huge game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.<\/p>\n
The Browns have added a player and an assistant coach to the COVID-19 list, though the team declined to identify them.<\/p>\n
The team closed its facility for a few hours on Wednesday after being informed of the test results and held virtual meetings.<\/p>\n
The Browns already had nine players on the list, including their top four wide receivers. Those players and some others are eligible to return Thursday as long as they test negative.<\/p>\n
Cleveland will make the playoffs for the first time since 2002 if they beat the Steelers, who will rest starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.<\/p>\n
The NFL is monitoring the Browns\u2019 situation to determine whether the game needs to be moved. And the NFL\u2019s chief medical officer, Dr. Allen Sills, said the league is investigating the rise in cases within the Browns.<\/p>\n

Fans must wear masks once they leave their vehicles in parking lots until they return to their vehicles, and will be asked to leave if they take off their masks. The eighth-ranked Sooners captured the Cotton Bowl with a convincing 55-20 pounding of Florida.<\/p>\n
Spencer Rattler threw for three touchdowns and ran for another score, 11 days after helping the Sooners win the Big 12 title in the same stadium. Oklahoma racked up 684 total yards, with Rhamondre Stevenson rushing for 186.<\/p>\n

The ninth-ranked Chanticleers went 11-1 this year, winning 11 straight before losing to Liberty in overtime at the Cure Bowl.<\/p>\n
Chadwell received 16 first-place votes and 88 points from the AP Top 25 panel. Indiana\u2019s Tom Allen finished second and Cincinnati\u2019s Luke Fickell was third.<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 Longtime Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara (zuh-DAY\u2019-noh CHAH\u2019-rah) has signed with the Washington Capitals in a stunning move less than a week before most NHL teams open training camp.<\/p>\n
Chara agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $795,000. The 43-year-old defenseman posted on Instagram that the Bruins have decided to move forward with younger players.<\/p>\n
The 6-foot-9 Chara is a seven-time All-Star who won the Norris Trophy as the league\u2019s top defenseman in 2009. He led the Bruins to the Cup in 2011 and trips to the final in 2013 and 2019.<\/p>\n

LONDON (AP) \u2014 American tennis player Sam Querrey was handed a suspended $20,000 fine by the ATP tour on Wednesday for breaching coronavirus protocols at the St. Petersburg Open in October.<\/p>\n
However, the fine will be lifted if the 33-year-old Querrey doesn\u2019t commit any further violations of health and safety protocols related to COVID-19 during a six-month probationary period.<\/p>\n

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) \u2014 Belmont Stakes winner Tiz the Law has been suddenly retired on the advice of a veterinarian after an X-ray revealed bone bruising in the colt\u2019s front leg.<\/p>\n
Tiz the Law had six wins in nine career starts and earnings of $2,735,300, according to Equibase. He retired on the same day his trainer, Barclay Tagg, turned 83.<\/p>\n

The Republican leader says Congress has provided enough pandemic aid and he’s blocked another attempt by Democrats to force a vote. McConnell is unwilling to budge, despite political pressure from Trump and even some fellow GOP senators. Trump wants the recent $600 checks increased threefold. But McConnell is dismissing the idea of \u201csurvival checks\u201d in a House-passed bill, saying the money would go to plenty of American households that don\u2019t need it.<\/p>\n

One million people would usually crowd the Sydney Harbor to watch the annual fireworks that center on the Sydney Harbor Bridge. WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 A Republican senator says he’ll object when Congress meets next week to certify President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the election. Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri says he’ll protest the Electoral College certification because \u201csome states, including notably Pennsylvania\u201d didn’t follow their election laws. A Biden spokeswoman is dismissing Hawley\u2019s move as \u201cantics\u201d that will have no bearing on Biden being sworn in on Jan. 20. Hawley isn’t giving specifics or evidence in the statement he released announcing his intentions. Hawley’s move is likely to force votes in the House and Senate that would delay the certification of Biden\u2019s win, but not change the outcome.<\/p>\n

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) \u2014 President Donald Trump is cutting short his Florida holiday vacation and will be returning to Washington on Thursday, a day earlier than originally expected. The White House has offered no explanation for the change. It was announced hours after Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri said that he will raise objections next week when Congress meets to affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the November election. The challenge in Congress is a futile effort to remain in power that Trump has been pushing following the failure of scores of legal challenges by his campaign to the election outcome.<\/p>\n

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) \u2014 A winter storm moving across parts of Texas and Oklahoma could dump up to 18 inches of snow in places before moving eastward and possibly spawning tornadoes. The National Weather Service says 12 to 18 inches of snow in southwestern Texas is possible by Thursday. Some snow is also expected in northwest Arkansas. Forecasts say the storm then will move eastward, creating a threat of tornadoes across Louisiana and southern Mississippi on New Year’s Eve as the colder temperatures are met with moisture and warmer air. The storm produced what forecaster Jeremy Grams said was likely a brief tornado in Corsicana, Texas, on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

TOKYO (AP) \u2014 Tokyo’s governor says Japan’s capital is seeing an alarming surge in coronavirus cases. Gov. Yuriko Koike urged people to spend the New Year’s holiday with their family, switching to English to say, \u201cstay home.\u201d She asked people to skip countdown ceremonies, and expressed concern people were out shopping in crowded stores. Japan has not imposed a lockdown but instead made requests for social distancing and mask wearing. Japan has had more than 230,000 cases of COVID-19 and more than 3,000 deaths. Sixty-five of the deaths came on Wednesday, the health ministry said Thursday. Government-backed discounts for travel have been discontinued after infections started climbing.<\/p>\n
