WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 President-elect Joe Biden is making a sober entrance to the nation\u2019s capital, ready to assume power as the nation reels from the coronavirus pandemic and soaring unemployment. There’s also serious concern about whether more violence could be in the offing as he prepares to take the oath of office on Wednesday. Biden had planned to take a train into Washington on Tuesday ahead of Inauguration Day. But he scratched the plan amid security concerns after this month’s riot at the U.S. Capitol. Instead he flew into a military airbase just outside the capital and is motorcading into a city that\u2019s been flooded by some 25,000 National Guard troops.<\/p>\n
WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 In an emotional farewell, President-elect Joe Biden promised that even as he departs for Washington, D.C., to be sworn in, \u201cI\u2019ll always be a proud son of the state of Delaware.\u201d Speaking Tuesday at an event at the National Guard headquarters in Delaware named for his late son, Beau, Biden\u2019s voice became thick with emotion as he told the crowd that \u201cwhen I die, I\u2019ve got Delaware written on my heart.\u201d He\u2019s leaving Wilmington via plane Tuesday afternoon and will appear at a memorial for COVID-19 victims at the Lincoln Memorial in the evening. Biden will spend the night at Blair House before moving into the White House on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
