FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Heavy rainfall overnight has led to flash flooding in North Dakota’s largest city and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
Water has swamped some streets and home basements in Fargo. City officials are asking residents in some areas to restrict water use until noon today because the wastewater treatment plant is running at high capacity.<\/p>\n
The National Weather Service says there are reports of more than 8 inches of rain in the region. The agency posted a flash flood warning.<\/p>\n
The Weather Service says Fargo set a rainfall record for the date on Tuesday, with 2.56 inches. That broke the 1969 record of just under an inch. Rain continued to fall after midnight, with the total in the city approaching 4 inches.<\/p>\n
In the 24 hours ending at 7-a.m., Wednesday the Jamestown Weather Station reported .10 inches of rain…in downtown Valley City rain measurement was .06 of an inch.\u00a0 The official Valley City 24 hour rain measurement was\u00a00.52.<\/p>\n
A flash flood warning was issued Tuesday evening in extreme southeast Barnes County due to heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n
Excess runoff from the heavy rain ended this morning over the warned area. Streams and creeks in the warned area have receded or were beginning to recede, ending the flood threat.<\/p>\n
For a time Tuesday evening east and west bound lanes of I-94 west of Casselton were underwater.<\/p>\n
