North Dakota health officials are reporting typically low COVID-19 testing numbers for a weekend day, with 49 new cases confirmed out of 1,673 tests processed in the 24 hours. The update released Sunday increased the total number of positive tests to 98,155 since the start of the pandemic. Cass County, the state\u2019s most populous area, has recorded the most cases at 21,038. No new deaths were posted in Sunday\u2019s report, leaving the total number of fatalities at 1,428. Hospitalizations rose by three in the last day. to 39 There are nine people who are being treated in intensive care units.<\/p>\n

City-County Health District will begin to vaccinate people with the COVID-19 vaccine this week who are 75 and older, and\u00a0 those 65 and older with chronic health conditions.<\/p>\n

City-County Health District, Administrator, Theresa Will says over 17-hundred vaccine doses have been administered since they started vaccinating residents, but some of those include second dose vaccines.<\/p>\n

She encourages those without a computer to call the city county health district office to get placed on a standby list. Or get registered at CityCountyHealth.org<\/a> and click on \u201cCOVID-19 Vaccine Extra Dose List\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (CVHD)\u00a0 \u00a0Central Valley Health District (CVHD) continues to work with local clinics and other health care providers to vaccinate the community for COVID. \u00a0Unit Administrator, Robin Iszler says that last week was very busy at CVHD with the administration of first and second doses in the community, adding that, \u00a0\u201cWe completed over 200 first doses and 322 second doses last week.\u201d<\/p>\n

She \u00a0says that this week CVHD anticipates to provide an increased amount of first doses with approximately 600 doses planned to arrive early in the week.<\/p>\n

She reports \u00a0that CVHD staff, with the assistance of the ND National Guard, have begun calling clients from the interest list to schedule an appointment for vaccination clinics planned for next week. If the vaccine arrives as anticipated, CVHD plans to do a large vaccination clinic on Tuesday. The clinic will be by appointment only.<\/em><\/p>\n

Robin says, \u201cNational guard members are assisting us with calling community member to schedule appointments.\u201d \u00a0Calls are completed during the business hours from 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. Those who are called are given instructions on where and when to report to the vaccination clinic location. Information gathered by CVHD will only include name, address, phone number, date of birth, and a few health screening questions. There will be no gathering of any other personal information over the phone; including social security numbers or insurance information. When clients come for their appointment, CHVD staff will assist in the completion of the remainder insurance information that is needed.<\/p>\n

Robin adds, that the Federal Pharmacy Program is providing COVID vaccine directly to some pharmacies in North Dakota to provide vaccination in their facilities. This means that community members may be on multiple lists and have registered multiple times in various places, so they may be called more than once. Iszler encourages individuals to take the first available appointment when they are called, whether at public health or at a local pharmacy.<\/p>\n

Last week, CVHD was still vaccinating those in priority group Phase 1B, including those 75 and older only. Robin says, \u201cDifferent areas of the North Dakota may be at different priority groups, depending on their population.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0Central Valley Health anticipates to complete vaccination for those 75 and older by this week and to begin calling those in the next priority group, which includes those 65-74 with underlying health conditions.<\/p>\n

\"\"Bismarck\u00a0 (CSi) The North Dakota Department of Commerce Friday announced that the Hospitality Economic Resiliency Grant (HERG) application window is now open and restaurants that have not previously applied for the grant are highly encouraged to apply through Feb. 25.<\/p>\n

\u201cNorth Dakota has 3,400 restaurant and bar licenses throughout the state,\u201d Commerce Interim Commissioner Shawn Kessel said. \u201cSo far, we have\u00a0 awarded 960 grants to restaurants and bars. This means many businesses have the opportunity to apply. We want all eligible to participate in this grant designed to strengthen our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kessel added that Commerce has $30 million HERG dollars available to assist remaining eligible businesses that lost revenue due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

Due to the continuing need of assistance, Commerce created the HERG to focus on reimbursing hospitality businesses that were directly impacted by Executive Order 2020-06. This includes all restaurants, bars, breweries, cafes and similar on-site dining establishments.<\/p>\n

Eligible entities also include theaters, drama, music and entertainment venues and professional production companies that support major venues, meetings and events.<\/p>\n

Hotels with restaurants, bars, coffee shops and\/or\u00a0banquet\/meeting spaces may apply for\u00a0a grant using the operational expenses from those specific operations.\u00a0Receipts must\u00a0clearly show this\u00a0connection such as dedicated staffing..<\/p>\n

Funds must be used to reimburse eligible entities for costs in operations, like payroll, rent and utilities. Eligible expenses must have been incurred on or after March 27, 2020, and no later than date of application.<\/p>\n

Recipients of the first round of the HERG may be eligible for round two funds if the recipient received less than the full eligible amount. In this case, the recipient may be eligible for the difference between the two rounds, up the maximum distribution allowed per grant. Different expenses from round one reimbursements must be submitted to receive round two funds.<\/p>\n

Applicants may receive up to $25,000 and eligible entities with multiple locations may receive up to $75,000. A max of $25,000 will be allowed per location. Grant recipients are required to comply with ND Smart Restart protocols.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The growth of chronic wasting disease in North Dakota deer continues to accelerate and at a pace state wildlife officials didn\u2019t expect would happen for years to come. The state Game and Fish Department says 18 deer from last fall\u2019s hunt tested positive for the fatal disease, up from 12 the previous year. The total number of cases since CWD was initially discovered in North Dakota in 2009 is 44 and 30 of those cases have occurred in the last two years. Game and Fish Wildlife veterinarian Charlie Bahnson says officials expected this kind of increase, but thought it would come many years down the road.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The North Dakota Senate has passed a bill that allows alcohol to be sold earlier on Sundays. Republican Sen. Scott Meyer, of Grand Forks, said he proposed the legislation to help the service industry which has been dealing with restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, bars and restaurants can\u2019t serve alcohol from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sundays. And liquor stores can\u2019t sell alcohol until noon on Sundays. Meyer\u2019s bill would move up alcohol sales to 8 a.m., like the rest of the week. The Senate initially killed the bill on Thursday. But, Sen. Randy Burckhard asked for reconsideration on Friday. It was narrowly passed and sent to the House.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Supporters of a change in the makeup of the state board that oversees land and minerals in North Dakota want an agricultural commissioner on the panel. Lawmakers are considering several pieces of legislation that would remove the state treasurer from the Board of University and School Lands and replace the seat with an agricultural representative. The board currently includes the governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state superintendent and state treasurer. The proposal comes after ranchers became frustrated with leasing auctions that moved online because of the coronavirus pandemic and felt the move was made without any agricultural input.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A proposal to reimburse North Dakota lawmakers for meals beyond their per diem payments could languish in a longer-term study of overall expense reimbursements. Republican Rep. Keith Kempenich introduced a bill in committee Thursday that would reimburse state lawmakers from outside Bismarck for meals on days when they\u2019re in session. A legislative estimate indicates it would cost taxpayers about $424,000. The House Government and Veterans Affairs Committee rejected that proposal, but voted in favor of an amendment Kempenich offered that the would set up a two-year study of lawmakers\u2019 pay and expense reimbursements. The bill now goes to the House for a vote.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (UJ<\/a>)\u00a0 The University of Jamestown women\u2019s basketball team staged a furious comeback attempt Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena, but came up short, falling to Midland (Neb.) University 80-74.<\/p>\n

The loss drops the Jimmies\u2019 overall record to 14-9 and 11-9 in the GPAC, while Midland also is 14-9 and 11-9 in the conference. It was the final regular-season home game for seniors Correy Hickman<\/a> (SR\/Morris, MN), Mackensi Higlin<\/a> (SR\/Mandan, ND), and Emma Stoehr<\/a> (SR\/Woodbury, MN).<\/p>\n

UJ trailed 21-17 after the first quarter, but managed only four points in the second, falling behind 45-21 at the half.<\/p>\n

Jamestown made just one of 15 field goal attempts in the second quarter while Midland sank eight of 14. The Jimmies went the final 7:41 of the half without a basket and 4:43 without a point.<\/p>\n

Midland took its largest lead of 29 points after a pair of Katy Gathje free throws with 2:23 in the third. Three-pointers by Anni Stier<\/a> (SO\/Rugby, ND) and Macy Savela<\/a> (SO\/Mountain Iron, MN) along with a pair of buckets by Kia Tower<\/a> (SO\/Bigfork, MN) helped UJ close the quarter on a 10-0 run.<\/p>\n

The Warriors went back on top by 24 at the 8:53 mark of the fourth, but Jamestown responded with the next 15 points to cut the lead to single digits.<\/p>\n

Kennedy Darner put Midland in front by a dozen with a three-pointer at the 4:09 mark. Tower made a basket, then Emma Stoehr<\/a> followed with a three-pointer, and a Tower three-point play made things interesting at 71-67 with 2:45 left.<\/p>\n

Jamestown was unable to get any closer than four the rest of the way, and the Warriors scored seven of their final nine points at the foul line to close out the win.<\/p>\n

Tower led UJ with 14 points, followed by Noelle Josephson<\/a> (JR\/Ramsey, MN) with 13. Audrey Rodakowski<\/a> (FR\/Dickinson, ND) was also in double figures with 10. Savela came off the bench to add 13. Josephson pulled down nine rebounds and dished out four assists along with Tower.<\/p>\n

Makenna Sullivan led Midland with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Lexis Haase also recorded a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Emma Shepard was also in double figures with 10.<\/p>\n

Mason Walters<\/a> (SO\/Jamestown, ND) scored 21 points and had 15 rebounds to help lead the University of Jamestown men\u2019s basketball team to a 100-74 win over Midland (Neb.) University Saturday afternoon at Harold Newman Arena.<\/p>\n

It was the sixth straight win for the Jimmies, who improved to 18-5 overall and 14-4 in the GPAC. Midland falls to 4-16 overall and 2-15 in the conference.<\/p>\n

Marc Kjos<\/a> (SO\/Lake City, MN) added 18 points on six-of-eight three-point shooting, while Allante\u2019 Pickens<\/a> (SR\/Chicago, IL) added 13 and Cole Woodford<\/a> (FR\/Redwood Falls, MN) 10.<\/p>\n

Midland led 15-6 following a three by Jake Rueschhoff, but Jamestown tied the game at 15 on a Will Cordes<\/a> (FR\/Shakopee, MN) three and two more by Kjos.<\/p>\n

Jamestown took the lead for good following a pair of free throws by Pickens with 7:40 before halftime.<\/p>\n

Kjos scored the Jimmies\u2019 final nine points of the half and the lead was 48-38 at the break.<\/p>\n

Pickens opened the second half with another three-pointer, and a 19-9 run capped off by two Brock Schrom<\/a> (SR\/Grand Rapids, MN) free throws made it a 20-point game.<\/p>\n

The Warriors went on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 12, only to have Jamestown counter with a 9-0 run of their own to end the threat,<\/p>\n

Tanner Slag<\/a> (SR\/New Salem, ND)\u2019s three-pointer gave the Jimmies their third 100-point game of the season, and second in their last three.<\/p>\n

Rueschhoff led all scorers with 26 for Midland. Bo Sandquist added 22.<\/p>\n

\"\"FOREST CITY, IOWA\u00a0 (VCSU<\/a>)\u2013 The Valley City State women\u2019s basketball team sank five of six free throws in the final 30 seconds of the game to defeat Waldorf Saturday, 73-70.<\/p>\n

Macey Kvilvang<\/a> posted a big double-double for the Vikings, scoring a career-high 28 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in the win. Maara Nelson<\/a> added 18 points and five rebounds Saturday.<\/p>\n

Valley City State improves to 7-10 overall and 5-6 in the NSAA. Waldorf drops to 1-16 overall and 1-10 in the conference.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m proud of this group for finding a way to get out a win on the road. It was nice to see us make plays when it counted down the stretch and have players step up in big moments.\u201d said head coach Vanessa Johnson<\/a>. \u201cWe definitely need to get better at certain parts of the game, but I\u2019m proud of the grit we showed!\u201d<\/p>\n

Both teams came to battle as Waldorf held a 21-20 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Over the next 10 minutes, Valley City State took a 13-2 run to lead by double figures, but a Waldorf three-pointer just before the buzzer closed the gap to a 33-26 Viking lead at halftime.<\/p>\n

The Vikings led by as much as 11 points on a jumper from Maara Nelson<\/a> early in the third quarter but Waldorf finished the quarter on a 16-8 run to lead 50-49 going into the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n

Trailing 53-51, Dani Schwanke<\/a> hit a 3 to regain the advantage and send the Vikings on a 9-2 run to lead by seven. Waldorf\u2019s Sandra Christian hit back-to-back 3\u2019s to close the gap to 62-61 with just under four minutes to play. Valley City State hit six free throws and a big 3 from Emma Nielsen<\/a> to maintain the lead but Waldorf\u2019s Tina Lair-VanMeter scored a three-pointer to make it 71-70 with 5 seconds to go. Waldorf had to foul to stay alive and Allie Critchley<\/a> sank a pair of free throws to put it away for VCSU.<\/p>\n

FOREST CITY, IOWA\u00a0\u00a0 (VCSU<\/a>)\u2013 The Valley City State men\u2019s basketball team is off to their best start since the 2015-16 season with Saturday\u2019s 78-71 win over Waldorf.<\/p>\n

Valley City State is now 16-5 overall and 7-4 in the NSAA with just three conference games remaining. The 2015-16 squad posted a 16-5 record through their first 21 games and eventually won a first-round game at the NAIA National Tournament.<\/p>\n

Waldorf falls to 5-14 overall and 4-7 in the conference.<\/p>\n

Tate Hebrink<\/a> had a career game Saturday, posting a career-high 21 points, four steals, and three assists off the Viking bench.<\/p>\n

\u201cSplits on the road are what\u2019s needed in a conference race.\u201d said head coach Ryan Montgomery<\/a>. \u201cOur men battled through a tough road trip and found a way to win today. Tate Hebrink<\/a> was huge for us. He really carried us through tough patches throughout the game. We are proud of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kevin Schramm<\/a> added 16 points and three assists, while Connor Enzi scored 10 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds for VCSU.<\/p>\n

Waldorf started out with an early 23-14 lead but a Chris Thompson<\/a> layup and three-pointers from Jalen Addison<\/a> (2) and Hebrink combined for an 11-0 run to take over the lead at 25-23. Waldorf answered with a three-point play from Quincy Minor Jr. but a basket from Schramm gave the Vikings the lead for good with just under six minutes to go in the first half.<\/p>\n

Waldorf got within two points early in the second half when Valley City State took a 14-0 run capped by a jumper from Entzi to lead by 16 points and its largest lead of the game en route to the 78-71 victory.<\/p>\n

Valley City State shot 49 percent from the field (27-55), 48 percent on three-pointers (11-23), and 62 percent from the free throw line (13-21). Waldorf shot 53 percent from the field (26-49), 40 percent on three-pointers (8-20), and 79 percent from the free throw line (11-14). VCSU also forced 21 Warrior turnovers.<\/p>\n

Waldorf had three players in double figures, led by Quincy Minor Jr. with 23 points.<\/p>\n

Brady threw for three first-half touchdowns and the Buccaneers stifled Kansas City\u2019s offense in a 31-9 win over the Chiefs. Brady claimed Super Bowl MVP honors for the fifth time, throwing to Rob Gronkowski for the first two TDs and found Antonio Brown in the end zone with six seconds left in the first half.<\/p>\n

Brady was 21 of 29 for 201 yards and no interceptions in winning a Super Bowl ring for a record-extending seventh time. Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones II combined for 144 yards rushing, with Fournette scoring the game\u2019s final TD on a 27-yard run in the third quarter.<\/p>\n

Most of the Chiefs\u2019 350 total yards came in the fourth quarter. Patrick Mahomes didn\u2019t go over 100 yards passing until the final minute of the third quarter.
