(AP) &#8211; The water board representing counties<br \/>\nin the Devils Lake basin has dropped its sponsorship of a proposed<br \/>\nfloodwater outlet from Stump Lake.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Devils Lake Basin Joint Water Resource Board manager Jeff Frith<br \/>\nsays \u00a0the move came after the state increased the cost estimate from $17 million to $23.5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Frith says the board still favors the idea of the outlet but the local share of<br \/>\nthe cost would be too high.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Stump Lake has become connected to Devils Lake after two decades<br \/>\nof flooding.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed Stump Lake outlet would complement outlets on Devils Lake&#8217;s west and east sides.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 State Water Commissioner engineer Bruce Engelhardtsays \u00a0he doesn&#8217;t immediately know what the local water board&#8217;s decision will mean for the proposed project.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DEVILS LAKE, N.D.
