.Gusty southerly winds sustained to around 20 mph will combine
\nwith forecast minimum RH values from 12 to 23 percent on Thursday.
\nCombined with very dry fuels, a critical fire weather day will be
\npossible for all of western and central North Dakota.<\/p>\n

\"\"(CSi)\u00a0 The Barnes County Commission has extended the burn ban for Barnes County now through April 7<\/p>\n

The ban includes the burning of leaves, grass clippings, garbage pits, construction debris, fallen trees as well as crop residue, sloughs, campfires and bonfires.<\/p>\n

Barnes County Emergency Manager Sue Lloyd said residents can use grills and fire pits so long as there is an adult present and monitoring them and the adult ensures the fire pit and grill are completely extinguished.<\/p>\n

(CSi) Stutsman County Emergency Manger Jerry Bergquist reminds residents that with the lack of snow cover, Stutsman County residents need to be reminded of the open burning ordinance that limits when burning can be safely carried out. The ordinance is in effect 365 days a year. However, it restricts burning only when the Fire Danger Rating for Stutsman County is in the \u201cVERY HIGH\u201d or \u201cEXTREME\u201d categories or if a \u201cRED FLAG WARNING\u201d has been issued by the National Weather Service.<\/p>\n

Because of the continued dry conditions, Stutsman County will most likely be placed in either the \u201cVERY HIGH\u201d or \u201cEXTREME\u201d fire danger categories. If this occurs, the ordinance dictates that NO burning is permitted within Stutsman County. This includes starting, conducting, allowing, maintaining, or soliciting any open burn activities.<\/p>\n

Violations of the open burning ordinance will be enforced. A violation is a Class B misdemeanor, for which a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail, a fine of $1,500.00 or both may be imposed.<\/p>\n

The Stutsman County website has the daily fire rating, today in the Very High category and includes Barnes County.<\/p>\n

Jamestown Rural Fire Department (JRFD) Chief Brian Paulson reports that firefighters have responded to numerous grass fires over the past few days, due to tinder dry vegetation conditions, not only burning acreage but also stressing firefighters, and resources.<\/p>\n

Chief Paulson reminds those\u00a0\u00a0 getting into the field for spring planting to take precautions to help prevent further fires in the area as high winds and dry conditions persist.<\/p>\n

Edgeley and Jud Fire Departments were called a grass fire near Nortonville on Monday, theorized to have been caused by high wind\u00a0 gusting to between 40 and 50 mph, causing a power line arc.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Strong winds and drought conditions fueled a wildfire in western North Dakota, injuring a firefighter and some livestock and damaging utility infrastructure. Officials say the fire has burned about 1 square mile north of Richardton in Stark County. Richardton Fire Chief Jason Kostelecky says smoke reduced visibility in the area to near zero at times Monday, leading to the crash of a fire truck and minor injuries to a firefighter. He says some calves in the area were injured in the fire, but the extent of those injuries aren\u2019t known. An abandoned building burned in the blaze, as did fences, power lines and utility poles. Montana-Dakota Utilities spokesman Mark Hanson says the fire damaged five of the company\u2019s structures, causing one to collapse.<\/p>\n

Update…<\/p>\n

Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 the Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office reports that two people were arrested Tuesday evening at Smokey\u2019s Landing.<\/p>\n

The report says several vehicles were attempted to be broken into.<\/p>\n

Stutsman County Sheriff Chad Kaiser, both individuals are their 20\u2019s. \u00a0The sheriff\u2019s Office was \u00a0called to the campground, and upon arrival found a locked vehicle. License \u00a0plates, showed both individuals were reported missing from Oklahoma<\/p>\n

Kaiser says the individuals told them that they lost their keys during a walk, having locked their car with their phones in it.<\/p>\n

Kaiser says, they then tried to break into several campers to escape the high wind and cold weather.<\/p>\n

They were located in one of the campers with injuries, and were taken from the scene, by Jamestown Area Ambulance Service to JRMC, for treatment, with one released and the other transferred to Fargo for medical treatment.<\/p>\n

No names were immediately released.<\/p>\n

He says the report will be submitted to the Stutsman County States Attorney.<\/p>\n
