\"\"Valley City (CSi) The Barnes County Commission has rescinded the Barnes County burn ban on April 13 after conditions improved this week.<\/p>\n

Barnes County Emergency Manager Sue Lloyd said residents will still have to call the dispatch center at 701-845-8181 for any controlled burn they plan to have in the future.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown City Fire Department was called Tuesday at about 10:27 a.m. to 2625 8th<\/sup> Avenue, Southwest, the i-3-G Media building<\/p>\n

City Fire Chief Jim Reuther says the caller said there was smoke coming from the heater vent in the building.<\/p>\n

The fire department checked for hot spots in the building and roof, using Ladder 1, and none were found. Smoke was evacuated from the building.<\/p>\n

He says the cause of the smoke was likely electrical from a ventilation motor.<\/p>\n

Four City Fire Units, and 24 firefighters were on the scene, 25 minutes.<\/p>\n

\"\"Bismarck\u00a0 (CSi) \u00a0 The North Dakota Department of Health (NDDoH) is strongly urging that vaccine providers in the state pause use of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine following a joint statement by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) issued on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Molly Howell, MPH, NDDoH Immunization Program Director, says,\u00a0 \u201cWhile Janssen\u00a0 (J&J) use is paused, individuals seeking COVID-19 vaccination should receive Pfizer or Moderna.\u00a0<\/strong> Over 180 million doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have been administered in the United States and the only safety concern that has been identified is anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction), which is very rare and manageable with immediate treatment. No other concerning safety signals have been associated with either of the mRNA vaccines; vaccination against COVID-19 continues to be safer than risking the disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

There are currently no known cases of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis among Janssen COVID-19 vaccine recipients in North Dakota.<\/p>\n

.CCHD Administrator Theresa Will says, those who have registered to receive the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, will instead receive the Moderna Vaccine. Moderna is a two dose vaccine, and you will have to register for the second dose.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown (CVHD)\u00a0 Central Valley Health District this week will have COVID-19 Testing at the Jamestown Civic Center in April from 11-a.m. to 12 noon,\u00a0 at the Jamestown Civic Center,\u00a0 April, 14, 16,19, 21, 23, 26,28, 30, using the Rapid Testing, BinaxNow.<\/p>\n

By screening with rapid antigen tests, event attendees will be able to receive their test results within 15 minutes via text notification. The test also is less invasive than a PCR (Polymerase chain reaction) test in that it uses a nasal swab to collect a sample<\/a> from the lower part of the nostril.<\/p>\n

If a person tests positive, they should isolate at home immediately and a case investigator will be in touch with them within 24 hours. If the screening yields a negative result, individuals should continue to monitor for symptoms.<\/p>\n

Interested individuals should fill out an online survey at testreg.nd.gov<\/a> for faster registration.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 On Tuesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, \u00a0Jamestown\/Stutsman Development Corporation (JSDC) Business Development Business Manager, Corry Shevlin said the Board of Directors on Monday voted to name the industrial and business park built by the JSDC next \u00a0to Jamestown Regional Airport as JMS Aviation Park.<\/p>\n

JMS is the abbreviation and Federal Aviation Administration code for the Jamestown Regional Airport.\u00a0 He said the new name JMS Aviation Park will appear on billboards and other promotional advertising.<\/p>\n

The JSDC Board of Directors voted 11 to 3 for the name over \u00a0the name Highway-20 Aviation Park that was a recommendation of the JSDC Business Attraction Committee.<\/p>\n

\"\"Bismarck\u00a0 (PPR) In the North Dakota \u00a0Senate\u2019s version of the budget for Human Services, $3 million has been set aside to hire a consultant, to look at a new State Hospital in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Prairie Public Radio reports,\u00a0 that Bismarck Republican Senator Dick Dever, says the State Hospital funding including the hiring of a\u00a0 consultant, will be worked out in a conference committee.<\/p>\n

Governor Burgum had proposed building a new state hospital in his bonding proposal. The House has set aside $300,000 for a study.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say several people were injured when an SUV rear-ended a South Prairie school bus five miles south of Minot. The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the school bus had slowed down to turn left on U.S. Highway 83 Tuesday afternoon when the collision occurred. Patrol Sgt. Kevin Huston says three people in the SUV were injured and at least two people on the bus were hurt. The extent of their injuries was not known. A spare bus was brought in to take some of the students home and others were picked up by their parents<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A Cannon Ball man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison for driving drunk and causing a crash that killed two people on the Standing Rock Reservation. Thirty-seven-year-old Matthew Wood pleaded guilty last December to two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the deaths of 83-year-old Arlene Hodgkiss and 57-year-old William Left Hand in 2019. A third person, Jody Black Moon, suffered serious injuries. U.S. District Judge Daniel Traynor also ordered Wood Monday to pay more than $640,000 in restitution and spend three years on supervised release.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A group has submitted a proposed ballot measure that aims to raise the approval threshold for changing the North Dakota Constitution through the state\u2019s citizen-initiative process. The group wants to change voter approval of constitutional amendment from a simple majority to 60%. The petition also seeks to limit ballot measures to a single issue. Retired Maj. Gen. Michael Haugen is co-chairman of the group. He says constitutional amendments have been put before voters in every election cycle for more than a decade. Haugen says they are often backed by out-of-state interests. Backers said they expect to spend up to $1 million on the effort.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 LaDonna Allard, a woman considered a matriarch in the fight against the Dakota Access pipeline, has died at age 64. An online obituary says Allard died April 10 in Fort Yates where she lived. Allard founded the first Dakota Access pipeline protest camp in March 2016. It grew in size over the next few months and inspired others to set up camps where the Cannonball and Missouri rivers meet. Thousands of people from around the world soon arrived to stand with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in its fight against the pipeline.<\/p>\n

BROOKLYN CENTER, Minn. (AP) \u2014 A white Minnesota police officer who fatally shot a Black man during a traffic stop in a Minneapolis suburb and the city\u2019s chief of police resigned Tuesday. Officer Kim Potter and Police Chief Tim Gannon both resigned two days after the death of 20-year-old Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center. Potter was a 26-year veteran. She had been on administrative leave following Sunday\u2019s shooting. Gannon has said he believed Potter mistakenly grabbed her gun when she was going for her Taser. She can be heard on her body camera video shouting \u201cTaser! Taser!\u201d<\/p>\n

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) \u2014 A use-of-force expert says former Officer Derek Chauvin was justified in pinning George Floyd to the ground because because he kept struggling. The witness, Barry Brodd, testified Tuesday for the defense at Chauvin’s murder trial. He contradicted a parade of authorities from both inside and outside the Minneapolis police force who said Floyd used excessive force and violated his training. At one point he suggested that if Floyd was being compliant, he would have had both hands in the small of his back, \u201cand just be resting comfortably.\u201d That prompted an incredulous response from the prosecutor, who said Floyd was moving because he was struggling to breathe by shoving his shoulder into the pavement. The defense began presenting its case after 11 days of prosecution testimony.<\/p>\n

Kat Miska of the University of Jamestown is this week\u2019s GPAC\/Hauff Mid-America Sports pitcher-of-the-week.\u00a0 Miska, a junior from Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, came within two outs of a perfect game in a 6-0 win over Briar Cliff, but settled for a one-hitter in a 6-0 win. She struck out 11 and did not allow the Chargers to put a ball in play until the fourth inning. Miska allowed one earned run over five innings in a 12-2 win against Dordt (Iowa), finishing the week with a 2-0 record and an ERA of 0.58. She held opponents to a .100 average and struck out 21 in 12 innings. Miska is 11th in the NAIA with her 0.92 ERA and 12th in batting average against (.160).<\/p>\n

Player \u2013 Morgan Geiszler, University of Jamestown (Infield)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Morgan Geiszler of the University of Jamestown is this week\u2019s GPAC\/Hauff Mid-America Sports softball player-of-the-week.\u00a0 Geiszler, a junior from Horace, North Dakota, hit safely in all four games last week as Jamestown went 4-0. All six of her hits were for extra bases, including three doubles, a triple, and two home runs. She posted a slugging percentage of 1.308 and an on-base percentage of .533.<\/p>\n

The Jimmies finished at 57-over 633 (314-319), just two shot behind fourth-place Ottawa (Kan.) University. Bethany College was first at 24-over 600 (301-299).<\/p>\n

Jackson Worner<\/a> (SO\/West Fargo, N.D.) was the top finisher for UJ, tied for 11th at 10-over 154 (74-80). UJ shot a team score of 343 on Tuesday to finish at 55-over par 688 (345-343), 29 shots back of Tyler Junior College at 43-over 659 (328-331). Bethany College was third at 71-over 709 (350-359).<\/p>\n

Paige Argent<\/a> (SR\/Minot, N.D.) was the highest placer for Jamestown, tying for third at 24-over 168 (77-91).
