BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 State tax revenue exceeded projections in April. The Bismarck Tribune reports April’s general fund revenues outpaced 2019 legislative projections by 1.2%, or more than $2.7 million. Revenues have exceeded projections by 2.2%, or $96.6 million, since mid-2019. May’s revenue numbers aren’t available yet but State Office of Management and Budget Director Joe Morrisette said Monday they looked to be what he called \u201cfairly positive.\u201d Overall sales taxes, the largest source of general fund revenue, are still 2.5% lower than the 2019 forecast, though, reflecting the disruptive effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall oil taxes are 26% under forecasts.<\/p>\n
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities have identified a man who died after his jet ski tipped over on the Missouri River on Saturday. The Morton County Sheriff’s Department said the man was 30-year-old Rodrigo Soto-Garcia of Bismarck. Deputies were dispatched around 10:30 p.m. Saturday to find that people at a Graner Park campground south of Mandan had pulled Soto-Garcia and his passenger, a 22-year-old South Dakota woman, onto the shore. Soto-Garcia was wearing a life vest but was unconscious. He was taken to a Bismarck hospital where he was pronounced dead. The woman wasn’t injured.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin says he wasn’t swayed by civil rights leaders who implored him to swing behind his party’s sweeping voting rights bill. The West Virginia moderate says that Tuesday’s meeting was \u201cexcellent\u201d but that nobody \u201cchanged positions.\u201d Manchin’s comments come after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said there could be no substitute for the bill, known as HR1. She says the measure is needed to combat a \u201cRepublican assault on our democracy.\u201d The bill passed the House, but Manchin’s opposition effectively has doomed it in the Senate because of fierce GOP opposition.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 A Senate investigation of the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol has found a broad intelligence breakdown across multiple agencies, along with widespread law enforcement and military failures. There were clear warnings and tips that right-wing extremist groups and other supporters of former President Donald Trump were planning to \u201cstorm the Capitol\u201d with weapons and possibly infiltrate the tunnel system underneath it. But that intelligence never made it to top leaders. The bipartisan Senate report details how officers on the front lines suffered chemical burns, brain injuries and broken bones, among other injuries, after fighting the attackers, who quickly overwhelmed them.<\/p>\n

Michael van der Veen is representing Jason Dolan, a Florida man recently added to the Department of Justice\u2019s largest conspiracy case stemming from the deadly riot. Van der Veen was part of the team that represented Trump during his historic second impeachment trial in the U.S. Senate that resulted in the former president\u2019s acquittal earlier this year.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The Senate is on pace to approve legislation aiming to boost semiconductor production in the U.S. The bill is a bid to protect economic and national security in the face of growing competition internationally, most notably from China. The centerpiece of the bill is a $50 billion emergency allotment to the Commerce Department to stand up semiconductor development and manufacturing through research and incentive programs previously authorized by Congress. Support for the bill demonstrates how confronting China economically is a mission that unites both parties in a divided Congress.<\/p>\n

(AP)\u00a0 A former pharmacist in Wisconsin who intentionally ruined more than 500 doses of COVID-19 vaccine has been sentenced to three years in prison. Steven Brandenburg was sentenced after pleading guilty in February to two felony counts of attempting to tamper with a consumer product. He had admitted to removing the doses manufactured by Moderna from a refrigerator for hours at Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, located just north of Milwaukee. Brandenburg is an admitted conspiracy theorist who believes vaccines are a product of the devil. Brandenburg also secretly substituted saline for flu vaccine that he was mandated to receive and persuaded several co-workers to secretly swap saline for their flu vaccine as well, according to court filings.<\/p>\n

The Chamber, along with their partners, were able to provide three $1,000 scholarships this year. One is a general scholarship and the other two are for students interested in a medical profession. Every year, the Chamber Ambassador Committee raises money for the scholarship fund.<\/p>\n
