Oakes\u00a0 (NDHP)\u00a0\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a one vehicle accident Saturday morning about 1:30 on Highway 11, at MM 109, 4 Miles southeast of Oakes claimed the life of a South Dakota\u00a0 man.<\/p>\n
The report says, a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer operated by\u00a0 33 year old Douglas Cavalier of\u00a0 Britton, South Dakota, was eastbound on Highway 11 at a high rate of speed. He lost control around MM 109 and entered the ditch, over corrected and rolled the vehicle. He was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life ending injuries. Alcohol and drugs were a factor in the crash. Ne was\u00a0 was transported the Hoven Funeral home in Ellendale.<\/p>\n
The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n
Assisting at the scene were the Dickey County SO, Oakes PD, Oakes Ambulance, Oakes Fire and Rescue.<\/p>\n

Conradie <\/span>reduced his speed to complete a U<\/span>-Turn <\/span>at a filed approach to travel westbound back <\/span>towards Maddock.<\/span><\/span>Leus st<\/span>ruck <\/span>Conradie<\/span> at a right angle in <\/span>the <\/span>west bound lane of 38<\/span>th<\/span> Street NE<\/span>. Vehicle 1 <\/span>came to final rest on its wheels facing mostly east<\/span> in the north ditch<\/span>. Vehicle 2 came <\/span>to <\/span>final rest on its wheels <\/span>facing <\/span>northeast in the north ditch. <\/span><\/span>Leus, Conradie, and Olivier<\/span> sustained minor non-life<\/span>-threatening injuries<\/span> and refused <\/span>transportation to a medical facility. Pitout and Visagie<\/span> both <\/span>received serious non<\/span>-life<\/span>\u2013<\/span>threatening injuries<\/span>. Pitout was transported to Trinity Hospital in Minot by Valley Med <\/span>Flight. (NDHP\u00a0 Updated Report))\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports a motorcycle crash Saturday about 3:36-p.m.\u00a0 on\u00a0 County Road 26, \u00bd Mile north of Walcott.<\/p>\n A Harley Davidson Motorcycle was traveling northbound on County Road 26 at an unknown rate of speed. The driver of Harley Davidson 47 year old\u00a0 Robert Stephens JR<\/span>, West Fargo,\u00a0<\/span>lost control while negotiating a right hand curve and overturned the motorcycle a number of times. He\u00a0 and a passenger 51 year old Tracy Stephens<\/span>, of West Fargo, <\/span>were not wearing helmets and were transported the Sanford Hospital in Fargo for serious injuries sustained in the crash.<\/p>\n The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Williston\u00a0 (NDHP) \u00a0The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports, a \u00a0motorcyclist was killed in a crash a quarter-mile east of Williston.<\/p>\n The 2018 Harley-Davidson was traveling east on 57th Street Northwest near the junction of 135th Avenue Northwest around 5:30 p.m. just outside the city limits of Williston when the motorcyclist failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway. The 29-year-old Williston man, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike as it entered the south ditch. To schedule care for any other day, call (701) 952-4878 or request an appointment online.<\/p>\n Katie Ryan-Anderson with the JRMC says this is important to us as we know transportation, finances and time in the day, that\u00a0 are often barriers when it comes to 3D mammograms and cervical screenings.<\/p>\n On a recent Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Tara Kapp with the Runnin of the Pink event which raises funds for the Women\u2019s Way, and No Excuses programs\u00a0 said, a study conducted by the Jamestown Regional Medical Center,\u00a0 found that nearly 50 percent of women in Stutsman County had not received a needed screening. The hope with No Excuses is to remove any barriers that might be the cause of women not having those screenings.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n JRMC partnered with the North Dakota Department of Health\u2019s Quit Line to connect admitted patients to tobacco cessation services.<\/p>\n This treatment is important, said Dr. Rachael Renschler, podiatrist\/foot & ankle surgeon and chief of the JRMC Specialty Clinic. Tobacco and nicotine use delays and interrupts the healing process.<\/p>\n She says, \u201cWhether the patients in our hospital are recovering from surgery or the flu, recovery has fewer complications and is faster without tobacco use.\u00a0 Offering this treatment while a patient is already in our care supports them in their immediate recovery as well as their long-term health.\u201d<\/p>\n JRMC received a grant from the North Dakota Department of Health to offer the supplies, training and patient education for the program. Already, three respiratory therapists, Gretchen Trebas, Erin Stewart and Nicole Brandvold, are trained to support patients in the tobacco-cessation journey.<\/p>\n Brandvold says, \u201cThis program is important to me because most people know they should stop using tobacco but aren’t sure how to go about it. Our training has taught us how to help so that we can give our patients the best care possible. We are excited to support our patients.\u201d<\/p>\n Though the program is year-round, the state offers a special event this month.<\/p>\n “It’s Quitting Time” is the North Dakota Department of Health’s Tobacco Free program. The program encourages tobacco and e-cigarette users to set a quit date during “It\u2019s Quitting Time”<\/a> on June 14-20.<\/p>\n Tobacco cessation is part of what makes JRMC a destination for care in the region, said Mallory Schultz. Schultz is JRMC\u2019s laboratory and respiratory therapy manager.<\/p>\n She says, \u201cThe reason we continue to receive awards like Top 20 Critical Access Hospital in the country and Top 100 Best Place to Work is because we care about the whole patient.\u00a0 These people are our friends and neighbors. We care about their health, before, during and after their care here.\u201d<\/p>\n The tobacco cessation program is also available to outpatient individuals, meaning, they don\u2019t have to be admitted to JRMC. The program is available at no cost to inpatients, and includes two weeks of nicotine replacement therapy. (AP) \u2014 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says popular boat ramps on Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota should remain in operation until freeze-up despite the dry conditions. The lake is about 6 feet lower than it was at this time a year ago. The Corps says it should peak about 1,838 feet at the end of July before dropping to about 1,836 feet at the end of October. Even at that elevation all of the primary boat ramps on Lake Sakakawea should remain in service.
