\"\"Jamestown (CSi)\u00a0 Frontier Village is seeing a large increase in tourists so far this year.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Tourism Director, Searle Swedlund said, tourist traffic through the Village has been steady, starting with Memorial Day Weekend, this year.<\/p>\n

He said compared to 2019, visitors to the Village has increase by 18 percent. He adds that vendor sales are up as well.<\/p>\n

He said the National Buffalo Museum has seen similar increases.<\/p>\n

A vendor is still be sought for the Frontier Village, General Store.\u00a0 Anyone interested can contact Jamestown Tourism at 701-251-9145.<\/p>\n

Searle said an Open House date will be announced in August at the Village.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the Jamestown City Council has approved the Villages improvements.<\/p>\n

\"\"He adds that the Railroad Parkette construction has started, just inside the gate to the right, where the thresher was located.\u00a0 Rail cars have been ordered to arrive in about a month as track work continues with planning assistance by BNSF Railroad.\u00a0 He said it\u2019s hopeful the Railroad Parkette will be operational by September this year.\u00a0 Funding has been provided by the Jamestown Eagles Club.<\/p>\n

He said the thresher has been relocated just outside of Jamestown and is on display.<\/p>\n

He added that planning for Bison World continues with a contingent from Jamestown to approach the state with additional information to obtain additional funding from North Dakota, possibly with additional dollars from the Legacy Fund.<\/p>\n

Check your TREES!\u00a0Many Birch Trees are stressing \u2026 try water<\/strong> and many Maple Trees have Chlorosis<\/strong>. \u00a0\u00a0Please help them.<\/p>\n

A few people have asked about the aerobatic performances taking place north of town.\u00a0We are one of only two North Dakota communities to have an \u201cAerobatic Box\u201d where these performances can be seen.\u00a0An Aerobatic Box is 2.5 miles wide & deep with a 10,000-foot ceiling north of our airport.\u00a0Recently Aerobatic Competency Examiners, \u201cACE Pilots\u201d, from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) were here to certify aerobatic performance these pilots can perform. \u00a0Specific performances are certified for this year\u2019s air shows around the country.\u00a0The two planes we see are the only ones in the nation, at this point, having jet engines in addition to the prop engines.\u00a0We are of the very few who can see such planes and performances from our own homes.\u00a0Enjoy them.<\/p>\n

\"\"Bismarck\u00a0 (NDPI)\u00a0 A Valley City Educator is among the four North Dakota teachers chosen as finalists for the state Teacher of the Year award for 2022.<\/p>\n

They are:
\n\u2013Bret Dockter, a sixth-grade teacher at Harvey Elementary School;
\n\u2013Heather Ell, a first-grade teacher at John Hoeven Elementary School in Minot;
\n\u2013Shari Jerde, a teacher of business education and family and consumer science at Grand Forks Community High School;
\n\u2013Matt Nielson, an 11th- and 12th-grade science teacher at Valley City High School.<\/strong><\/p>\n

State School Superintendent Kirsten Baesler says the four finalists are examples of North Dakota teaching excellence.\u00a0 The finalists will be interviewed by an eight-member selection committee. State law says the winner must be announced by September 30th.<\/p>\n

\"\"Ellendale\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The City of Ellendale and Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians will be receiving U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development funds for water and waste disposal projects.\u00a0 Ellendale will receive \u00a0$2,644,000 loan and $747,020 grant to replace sewer pipe and manholes in the city to benefit nearly 1,400 residents. The Ellendale grant will be used to replace sewer pipe and manholes for the city of Ellendale. The current infrastructure is aging and large rains can cause the master lift station to become overloaded and back up onto the streets. Multiple residents have reported sewer backups in their homes.<\/p>\n

Senator John \u00a0Hoeven states: \u00a0\u201cToday\u2019s grants will help residents in Ellendale and Turtle Mountain access clean, safe and reliable water by improving and updating infrastructure,\u201d<\/p>\n

The funds will be through the USDA\u2019s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. Details are as follows:<\/p>\n

Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians will receive two grants totaling $2,667,000 to construct sewer improvements and replace aging tile and to construct a water reservoir to provide a reliable water supply to residents.<\/p>\n

Keith Kempenich was among the thousands of North Dakotans who never took the coronavirus seriously, eschewing face coverings and blowing off the vaccine as an unnecessary hassle. But the longtime Republican lawmaker and rancher from the state\u2019s highly conservative southwest corner now is now a believer after the virus nearly killed him in the waning days of the legislative session this spring. The North Dakota Health Department is looking for testimonials from former virus skeptics like Kempenich as part of a planned public education campaign aimed at boosting the state\u2019s dismal vaccination rate.<\/p>\n

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The Mandan City Commission has agreed to equip the community\u2019s police force with body cameras. The commission approved the cameras unanimously Tuesday with no discussion. The police department received a quote from Digital-Ally, which already has cameras inside the police vehicles. The package of 28 body cameras, upgraded in-car cameras, accessories, set-up, training and cloud storage would cost about $165,000 for a five-year subscription. The Lincoln Police Department began using body cameras in early 2020. The Bismarck Police Department and the Burleigh County Sheriff\u2019s Department do not use the technology.<\/p>\n

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) \u2014 The uncle of a teenager who recorded the last moments of George Floyd\u2019s life in a video that helped launch a global protest movement against racial injustice has died in a crash involving a Minneapolis police car. Darnella Frazier said in a Facebook post that Leneal Lamont Frazier died early Tuesday after his vehicle was struck by the squad car that police said was pursuing another driver linked to several robberies. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner verified Leneal Frazier\u2019s death Wednesday, listing the cause as \u201cmultiple blunt force injuries.\u201d Frazier was not involved in the pursuit. His niece questioned why police were involved in a high-speed chase on a residential road. A police spokesman says the fleeing suspect is still at large.<\/p>\n

(AP) \u2014 Rescue crews pulled 10 more bodies from a collapsed condo building, and the emotional toll mounted as officials fought back tears and lamented the ordeal of victims’ exhausted families. The 14th day of the search yielded the highest number of bodies found in a single day and pushed the death toll up to 46. During a news conference, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava repeatedly tried not to weep, paused and shook her head as she described the effect of the tragedy on rescue workers and victims’ families. The latest retrievals reflect what rescue officials have said would be a ramped-up pace of work.<\/p>\n

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) \u2014 Iran has hosted the first significant talks in months between the Taliban and Afghan government representatives. Wednesday’s meeting was not previously announced. It comes as the U.S. completes its withdrawal from Afghanistan, where districts have increasingly fallen to the Taliban. The high-level talks between the warring sides follow months-old discussions in Qatar that have been stalled by a diplomatic stalemate and escalating violence. But even as officials faced each other across the vast tables in Tehran and Iran\u2019s top diplomat pledged to end the crisis, fighting surged in Afghanistan\u2019s western Badghis province. PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) \u2014 Haiti’s embattled president has been killed at age 53. Jovenel Mo\u00efse was a former banana producer and political neophyte who ruled Haiti for more than four years as the country grew increasingly unstable under his watch. Mo\u00efse was killed at his private home Wednesday following a highly coordinated attack by a highly trained and heavily armed group, according to interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph. Mo\u00efse took office in February 2017, pledging to strengthen institutions, fight corruption and bring more investments and jobs to the Western hemisphere\u2019s poorest nation. But his administration was plagued by massive protests, and critics accused him of growing increasingly authoritarian. His wife, Martine Mo\u00efse, was injured in the attack and remains hospitalized.<\/p>\n

(AP)\u00a0 The FBI is taking the unusual step of ordering a new look at the autopsy of Black motorist Ronald Greene to consider evidence not provided after his 2019 death, including body camera video of Louisiana state troopers stunning, punching and dragging him during his arrest. The re-examined autopsy is part of a federal civil rights investigation that has taken on new urgency in the seven weeks since The Associated Press obtained and published the video of Greene\u2019s arrest.
