Jamestown Rural Fire Chief Brian Paulson says, a farm implement sparked the grass fire.\u00a0 He says several fire districts were called in to help extinguish the grass fire burning about 40 acres.<\/p>\n

On Friday, July 16 firefighters were called to a grass fire near Sanborn, rural Fire Chief Tim Schwehr says no injuries or structure damage was reported.<\/p>\n

Friday and Saturday fire crews battled a grass fire, north of Sanborn near Rogers.\u00a0 Dazey Rural Fire District Chief Daryl Kunze said no injuries or structure damage was reported.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown (JPD) On June 21, 2021, the Jamestown Police Department received a report of a male suspect from Valley City, ND who was possibly trying to lure a juvenile from Jamestown to meet with him to perform sexual acts, by sending sexually explicit messages to the juvenile.<\/p>\n

Assistant Jamestown Police Chief, Major, Justin Blinsky reports that an investigation was conducted and alleges there were continuous sexually explicit messages sent to the juvenile by the suspect starting in May 2021 to try and induce sexual acts. The suspect patronized the juvenile for commercial sexual activity in exchange for something of value. The juvenile victim was also allegedly sexually assaulted by the suspect on at least one occasion within Stutsman County and the suspect knew the victim to be a juvenile.<\/p>\n

The suspect has been identified as 46-year-old Timothy Eugene Radtke of Valley City, ND. Radtke was arrested in Valley City, ND on suspicion on the charges of Gross Sexual Imposition, Luring a minor by computer or electronic means, and Patronizing a Minor for Commercial Sexual Activity. He was transported to Stutsman County Corrections to await formal charges.<\/p>\n

\"\"Bismarck\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 North Dakota\u2019s eight commercial service airports posted a total of 81,499 airline passenger boardings during the month of June. This month experienced the highest level of passenger traffic that the state has
\nseen since the Covid-19 pandemic began and continues the monthly positive trend of growing airline passenger demand.<\/p>\n

The June numbers show that the state is continuing its strong recovery as it is now only 19% below the pre-pandemic passenger levels by comparison to June of 2019.<\/p>\n

North Dakota Aeronautics Commission, Director, Kyle Wanner\u00a0 says,\u00a0 \u201cThe continual growth in demand for air travel is great news and helps to fuel optimism for the airline industry that is operating within our state.\u00a0 I encourage all of our residents and visitors to consider utilizing our North
\nDakota airports within any travel plans as any additional demand will help to leverage and expedite the return of more flight and destination options for our communities.”<\/p>\n

In June this year there were 1088 at Jamestown Regional Airport compared to 251 in June of 2020 and increase of 333-percent.\u00a0 Compared to the period of 2019-2021 an increase of 13 percent.<\/p>\n

Year to date totals this year, are 4543 Jamestown Boardings, compared to 2885 through June of 2020, an increase of 67 percent.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 Walmart has been a partner with the Children\u2019s Miracle Network Hospitals for numerous years.<\/p>\n

Now for the next two weeks, they\u2019ll be doing several pushes to raise awareness and funds for the network. Children\u2019s Miracle Network Hospitals is a non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children\u2019s hospitals.<\/p>\n

Sarah Bentley says every year they raise money and have set a goal of $12,000 for the local store.<\/p>\n

She says, \u201cRight now, we\u2019re about $5,000 short of our goal.\u00a0 We still have time, but we need the community\u2019s help.\u201d<\/p>\n

To raise money, Bentley says they\u2019re holding what she\u2019s calling a \u201cMiracle Monday\u201d on July 19th.<\/strong> The day will feature local businesses including Cornerstone Nutrition, Candyman Candy, and Sweet Dreams Mini Donuts as they come together to help raise money for Children\u2019s Miracle Network Hospitals.<\/p>\n

Bentley says each year, a child who has needed a Children\u2019s Hospital through the network is highlighted. Young McKenzie Jost of Carrington received treatments and care for cystic fibrosis.<\/p>\n

Bently adds, \u201cShe will be attending our event Monday at 3 PM.<\/strong>\u00a0 We are pretty competitive and would love to out raise the rest of the state, as we always believe the community of Jamestown is the best.\u201d<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A soon-to-be-vacant South Central District judgeship will stay in Mandan. The North Dakota Supreme Court made that decision following Judge John Grinsteiner plans to retire Aug. 20. When a district judge leaves, the Supreme Court determines whether to keep the judgeship in the present location, move it elsewhere or abolish it. The decision is based on statewide caseload data and comments from interested parties including attorneys and judges. Justices say the district has experienced a 23% population growth since 2000, and more than 80% of the population lives in Burleigh-Morton counties. Caseload trends project felony filings to increase significantly this year.<\/p>\n

TOWNER, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A California man rode his bike to North Dakota to celebrate his mother-in-law\u2019s 90th birthday. Brian Gonsalves, who lives in the San Diego area, isn\u2019t new to long-distance bike rides. The X-ray technician rode to Georgia in 2018, a trip totalling 2,709 miles. The Minot Daily News reports he used that to celebrate his 50th birthday and raise money for Scripps trauma services, as a survivor of a 2016 bicycle accident. With his wife, Dorreen Drader-Gonsalves, providing his mobile support, he started the 2,143-mile trip from California on June 18 and made it to the International Peace Garden on July 11. From there, they drove the 65 miles to Towner for Beverly Lynch\u2019s birthday party.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say thousands of North Dakota landowners have electronically posted millions of acres of private land in what is believed to be the first system of its kind in the nation. The 2021 North Dakota Legislature passed a law making electronic posting equal to physical posting and penalties and also defines a fence. It allows only lawful hunters and anglers to access fenced, unposted land for hunting and fishing activities only. The law takes effect Aug. 1. North Dakota\u2019s Game and Fish Department opened the system for electronic posting in May. The deadline to post was Thursday, in advance of fall hunting. The Bismarck Tribune reports that about 7,000 landowners posted 3.75 million acres around North Dakota. That it about 8.3% of the state’s total area.<\/p>\n

Morikawa wins his 2nd major with flawless finish<\/p>\n

SANDWICH, England (AP) \u2014 Whether it\u2019s beginner\u2019s luck or just solid play, Collin Morikawa has set himself apart in golf history.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old Morikawa is the first golfer to win two different majors in his first attempt after rallying to capture the British Open at Royal St. George\u2019s. He began the day one stroke behind leader Louis Oosthuizen (LOO\u2019-ee OOST\u2019-hay-zehn) before closing with a bogey-free, 4-under 66 for a two-stroke victory over Jordan Spieth (speeth).<\/p>\n

Morikawa made three straight birdies from the seventh hole to overtake Oosthuizen (OOST\u2019-hay-zehn), who was seeking a wire-to-wire win.<\/p>\n

Morikawa played the final 31 holes without a bogey and finished at 15-under 265. That\u2019s the lowest score in the 15 times the British Open has been played at Royal St. George\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s win follows his victory last year in his first PGA Championship.<\/p>\n

Oosthuizen shot a 1-over 71 on Sunday to finish in a third-place tie with Jon Rahm, another near miss for the 2010 Open champ. Oosthuizen was the runner-up at the last two majors.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Jeimer (JAY\u2019-mur) Candelario homered, drove in three runs and started two double plays as the Tigers dumped the Twins, 7-0 for a three-game sweep. Wily Peralta (3-1) pitched seven shutout innings for the second time in three starts, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out four. Minnesota swept a four-game series at home immediately before the All-Star break before losing three in Detroit.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Yankees blew past the Red Sox, 9-1 as Gleyber (GLAY’-bur) Torres and Rougned Odor (ROOG’-nehd oh-DOHR’) homered to back another strong start from Jameson Taillon (TY’-ahn). Taillon pitched 5 1\/3 scoreless innings of four-hit ball in his 100th major league start, improving to 4-0 in his past five outings. The Yankees won their second straight against rival Boston after dropping the first seven meetings this year.<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 The Washington Nationals were able to wrap up a disturbing weekend by splitting two with the Padres on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Alcides (al-SEE\u2019-dehs) Escobar homered in the eighth inning and hit a game-ending single in the ninth to give the Nats an 8-7 win against San Diego. Washington blew a 4-0 lead and trailed 6-4 following Manny Machado\u2019s seventh-inning blast. Escobar\u2019s round-tripper and Juan Soto\u2019s two-run homer put the Nationals ahead 7-6, only to have Brad Hand surrender an RBI single by Trent Grisham with two out in the ninth.<\/p>\n

Escobar\u2019s final hit ended Washington\u2019s six-game losing streak and came a day after a game with the Padres had to be suspended following a shooting outside Nationals Park.<\/p>\n

The Padres took the suspended game by a 10-4 margin after four San Diego relievers combined to toss four scoreless innings. Fernando Tatis (tah-TEES\u2019) Jr. had his third four-hit game of the season and scored twice for the Padres.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Rockies pulled out a 6-5 win over the Dodgers on Charlie Blackmon\u2019s solo homer in Colorado\u2019s two-run 10th. Trevor Story hit a tying sacrifice fly and Blackmon followed with a drive to right. Will Smith and Justin Turner each homered for the Dodgers, who remain one game behind the NL West-leading Giants.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Harrison Bader\u2019s check-swing single went off the glove of first baseman Lamonte Wade Jr., bringing home the deciding run in the seventh inning of the Cardinals\u2019 2-1 downing of San Francisco. Paul DeJong (deh-YUHNG\u2019) homered for the Cardinals and Matt Carpenter sparked the go-ahead rally with a double. Darin Ruf homered for the Giants, who dropped two of three in each series with the Redbirds this season.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Brewers complete a three-game sweep and stretch their lead in the NL Central to seven games by slamming the second-place Reds, 8-0. Corbin Burnes struck out 12 while allowing five hits and a walk over 8 1\/3 innings. He didn\u2019t allow a runner past first until the Reds loaded the bases in the ninth. Christian Yelich (YEH\u2019-lihch) hit a solo homer in the seventh and Willy Adames (ah-DAH\u2019-mehs) added a two-run shot in the ninth.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Eduardo Escobar hit a two-run homer and the Diamondbacks avoided a three-game sweep with a 6-4 win over the Cubs. Merrill Kelly needed just 75 pitches to navigate the Cubs\u2019 lineup through eight innings and threw 59 strikes. He was helped by two spectacular catches by Kole Calhoun and was pulled after allowing back-to-back hits to start the ninth.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Mets avoided a three-game sweep by storming back from a 6-0, first-inning deficit to beat the Pirates, 7-6. Michael Conforto crushed a two-run homer in the ninth to end New York\u2019s three-game skid, all against the last-place Bucs. Pinch-hitter Travis Blankhorn got the Mets within 6-4 with a three-run blast in the fourth, his first major league homer.<\/p>\n

\u2014 J.T. Realmuto (ree-al-MOO\u2019-toh) had a big day at the plate, following a two-run walk-off homer in the completion of Saturday\u2019s suspended game with a 3-for-5 performance and two RBIs as the Phillies beat the Miami Marlins 7-4. Realmuto\u2019s two-run 10th-inning homer gave the Phillies a 4-2 win in the suspended game. Andrew McCutchen and Didi Gregorius also homered in Sunday\u2019s scheduled game for the Phillies, who rallied from a 4-2 deficit to win for the 10th time in 14 games.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Yandy Diaz homered during a four-run seventh that sent the Rays past the Braves, 7-5. The Rays trailed 3-0 after four innings and 4-3 before completing their 28th come-from-behind win. Kevin Kiermaier doubled home the tying run and Austin Meadows lifted a sacrifice fly that put Tampa Bay ahead in the rubber match of the three-game set.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Blue Jays began a doubleheader sweep with a 5-0 shutout of the Rangers. Hyun Jin Ryu (hee-UHN\u2019 jihn ree-OO\u2019) threw a three-hitter for his third career shutout and Danny Jansen homered. Toronto combined its double-shutout in a twinbill and became the first team to blank Texas twice in the same day since the franchise moved from Washington 50 years ago.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Lourdes Gurriel (LOHR\u2019-dehs gur-ee-EHL\u2019) Jr. launched a first-inning grand slam and Vladimir Guerrero (guh-REHR\u2019-oh) Jr. slugged his 31st homer of the season as part of the Blue Jays\u2019 10-0 assault on the Rangers. George Springer and Randal Grichuk also went deep to back Steven Matz, who combined with two relievers on a three-hitter.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The White Sox won for the seventh time in eight games as Carlos Rodon allowed one hit over seven innings of a 4-0 shutout of the Astros. Abraham Toro\u2019s third-inning single was the only hit off Rod\u00f3n and accounted for Houston\u2019s only baserunner. Yo\u00e1n (yoh-AHN\u2019) Moncada and Tim Anderson hit solo homers, for the White Sox, who took the last two games of the series after dropping their first five meetings with the Astros.<\/p>\n

\u2014 Bradley Zimmer had three hits, including a home run on All-Star Chris Bassitt\u2019s first pitch to set the tone in the Indians\u2019 fifth win in six games, 4-2 at Oakland. Daniel Johnson connected for his first career home run and made a sparkling defensive play to help Cleveland take the rubber match of the three-game set. Zach Plesac (PLEE\u2019-sak) pitched six strong innings to win in his second start since breaking his right thumb while taking off his jersey in late May.<\/p>\n

\u2014 The Mariners overcame Shohei Ohtani\u2019s (SHOH\u2019-hay oh-TAH\u2019-neez) major league-leading 34th home run to beat the Angels, 7-4. Ty France hit a three-run homer, Luis Torrens added a home run and Logan Gilbert struck out a career-high nine in Seattle\u2019s fifth win in seven games. Angels second baseman David Fletcher went 0-for-5 to end his 26-game hitting streak, the second longest in team history.<\/p>\n

Mets place deGrom on IL with forearm tightness<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 The New York Mets are putting pitcher Jacob deGrom on the 10-day injured list with right forearm tightness.<\/p>\n

The right-hander first experienced the tightness before the All-Star Game and determined on Friday that he would be unable to make his scheduled start on Sunday at Pittsburgh.<\/p>\n

DeGrom underwent an MRI on Friday that confirmed the issue is in his forearm and that there is no structural damage to his elbow.<\/p>\n

DeGrom has also battled through back, lat and shoulder injuries this season, but has maintained a major league-best 1.08 ERA.<\/p>\n

LOUDON, N.H. (AP) \u2014 Aric Almirola has earned the first NASCAR Cup win of the season for Stewart-Haas Racing, taking the summer race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n

Almirola raced to his third career Cup victory and first since 2018, a needed boost for Ford that also played havoc with the playoff setup with only four races left before the 16-driver field is set.<\/p>\n

The race was delayed nearly two hours by rain and NASCAR called it early due to darkness, leaving it eight laps shy of its scheduled conclusion.<\/p>\n

Christopher Bell was second, followed by Brad Keselowski (kehs-LOW\u2019-skee), Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney. Bell was the only non-Ford driver among the top 6.<\/p>\n

The seven-time F1 champ roared back from a first-lap incident that sent championship leader Max Verstappen to the hospital. He also dealt with a 10-second penalty to earn his first victory in his last six races.<\/p>\n

The Mercedes driver cut the gap to Red Bull\u2019s Verstappen from 33 points to eight.<\/p>\n

First positive COVID tests for athletes in Olympic Village<\/p>\n

UNDATED (AP) \u2014 U.S. tennis player Coco Gauff won\u2019t get a chance to compete in the Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n

The 17-year-old American has tested positive for the coronavirus, forcing her out of the Summer Games. Gauff revealed her positive test in a tweet on Sunday.<\/p>\n

She is No. 25 in the WTA rankings and is coming off a fourth-round appearance at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) \u2014 Police in Arizona say a series of attacks Sunday afternoon have ended with five people shot, including one fatality, and two or three children missing. Tucson police Chief Chris Magnus told news outlets that a 35-year-old man is accused of opening fire on an ambulance crew, shooting two paramedics. Then, the suspect is accused of driving up to the scene of a house fire and shooting firefighters and neighbors trying to douse the flames. One neighbor was shot and killed. A firefighter and another neighbor were also shot. A body was found in the burned home and two or three children who lived there are missing. A police officer encountered the suspect and shot him. The suspect is in critical condition.<\/p>\n

BLY, Ore. (AP) \u2014 Erratic winds and dry lightning are among the dangers for crews battling the nation\u2019s largest wildfire. The Bootleg Fire is racing through parched Oregon forests just north of the California state line. It’s already burned an area about the size of Los Angeles. Meteorologists predict critically dangerous fire weather through at least Monday, including lightning that could ignite new fires. Thousands of people are under evacuation orders. Nationwide, about 70 large fires are burning. One fire spreading south of Lake Tahoe jumped a highway, prompting the closure of the Pacific Crest Trail and the cancellation of an extreme bike ride known as the \u201cDeath Ride.\u201d<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The Biden administration is blaming China for a hack of Microsoft Exchange email server software that compromised tens of thousands of computers around the world earlier this year. The administration and allied nations on Monday also disclosed a broad range of other cyberthreats from Beijing, including ransomware attacks from government-affiliated hackers that have targeted companies with demands for millions of dollars. A senior administration official says China\u2019s Ministry of State Security has been using criminal contract hackers, who have engaged in cyber extortion schemes and operations for their own profit. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson previously said attribution of cyberattacks should be based on evidence and not \u201cgroundless accusations.\u201d<\/p>\n

MOSCOW (AP) \u2014 The Russian military has reported another successful test launch of a new Zircon hypersonic cruise missile. Russia\u2019s Defense Ministry said the missile was launched on Monday from an Admiral Groshkov frigate located in the White Sea, in the north of Russia. The ministry said the missile successfully hit a target more than 217 miles away on the coast of the Barents Sea. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the Zircon missile would be capable of flying at nine times the speed of sound and have a range of 620 miles. An earlier test launch took place in October, on Putin\u2019s birthday.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The Biden administration has transferred a detainee out of the Guant\u00e1namo Bay detention facility for the first time, sending a Moroccan man back home years after he was recommended for discharge. The prisoner, Abdullatif Nasser, who\u2019s in his mid-50s, was cleared for repatriation by a review board in July 2016 but remained at Guantanamo for the duration of the Trump presidency. The Pentagon said Monday in a statement that the Periodic Review Board process determined that Nasser\u2019s detention no longer remained necessary to protect U.S. national security. The transfer of Nasser could suggest President Joe Biden is making efforts to reduce the Guantanamo population, which now stands at 39.<\/p>\n
