\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 The Jamestown City Fire Department was called to an apartment building at\u00a0 1014 16th Street Northeast, at about 2:28-p.m., Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The caller indicated smoke in the hallway.<\/p>\n

Lt. Sheldon Mohr said the cause of the smoke was burned food, in one of the apartment units.<\/p>\n

The city fire department ventilated the smoke, with minimal smoke damage reported.<\/p>\n

Five city fire units and 22 city fire fighters were on the scene\u00a0 about 15 minutes.<\/p>\n

The approval includes a 10 foot extension, and a waiver of liability on the easement.\u00a0 If the property becomes vacant the easement area will revert to the city.<\/p>\n

\"\"Valley City\u00a0 (CSi)\u00a0 During its Annual Meeting, the Valley City Public Schools Board has voted unanimously to appoint Phil Hatcher to the school board.<\/p>\n

Hatcher will serve on the board in the position for the 2021-2022 school year and then the position will be filled for the three-year term during the June 2022 school board election.<\/p>\n

Hatcher\u00a0 fills the position created when school board member Jamie Sylling resigned her position in June.<\/p>\n

Hatcher is currently employed by the City of Valley City as the Chief of Police for the past five years. He and his wife Laura have four children.<\/p>\n

\"\"MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say a man accused of shooting and killing a man in western North Dakota has been arrested. The 25-year-old suspect was found hiding in the stairwell of an apartment on the south side of Moorhead, Minnesota. He was taken into custody without incident. A handgun was recovered in the area. The man is wanted for a shooting Sunday in Killdeer, which is about 45 miles north of Dickinson. He is being held in the Clay County Jail awaiting extradition for charges in North Dakota.<\/p>\n

Moorhead, MN (KFGO) \u2013 Moorhead police are searching for a murder suspect who is considered armed and dangerous.<\/p>\n

25-year old Oscar Ortiz is wanted for a shooting death in Killdeer, North Dakota on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation contacted Moorhead Police early Tuesday morning regarding Ortiz. The BCI believes he was picked up in the area of the 3600 block of 8th Street South. Officers spotted Ortiz as he ran from the area. His vehicle was later found on Rivershore Drive.<\/p>\n

Despite a K9 track and the use of the Moorhead drone team, he has not been found. It\u2019s not known of Ortiz is still in the area or if he may have been picked up by someone else. A female friend was found and taken into custody.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s described as Hispanic, 5\u2032-5\u2033, 160 pounds wearing blue jeans and either a long sleeve blue t-shirt or no shirt.<\/p>\n

Property owners in the area are asked to check their surveillance equipment.<\/p>\n

Anyone with information is asked to call 911.<\/p>\n

RED LAKE, Minn. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say a Red Lake Nation tribal officer has been shot and killed in the line of duty. The FBI\u2019s Minneapolis office says on Twitter that the incident happened Tuesday morning while police were responding to a call at a home on the reservation. The FBI post says authorities apprehended the shooter and \u201cinvestigation is underway.\u201d Red Lake Tribal Council Chairman Darrell Seki ordered flags lowered to half-staff and shut down non-essential programs on Tuesday \u201cout of respect and honor\u201d for the fallen officer. The Red Lake Reservation is located in northwest Minnesota, about 160 miles from the Canadian border.<\/p>\n

MADISON, Wis. (AP) \u2014 The highest ranking Republican in the Wisconsin Assembly says he doesn’t know what a forensic audit of the state\u2019s 2020 presidential election results would prove. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos said Tuesday that he thinks two other ongoing election investigations are sufficient, while disagreeing publicly with a GOP colleague who called for yet another, broader probe. Vos also didn’t commit to providing any additional resources to conduct a \u201ccomprehensive, forensic examination\u201d that state Rep. Janel Brandtjen, chairwoman of the Assembly elections committee, called for on Monday. Vos says the ongoing review by the nonpartisan Legislative Audit Bureau is a forensic audit.<\/p>\n

(AP)\u00a0 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reversing course on some masking guidelines. The agency announced new recommendations Tuesday that even vaccinated people should return to wearing masks indoors in parts of the U.S. where the coronavirus is surging. Scientists cited new information about the ability of the delta variant to spread among vaccinated people. The CDC also recommended indoor masks for all teachers, staff, students and visitors to schools, regardless of vaccination status. The new guidance follows recent decisions in Los Angeles and St. Louis to revert to indoor mask mandates amid a spike in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations that have been especially bad in the South.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Four officers who defended the Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection have given emotional accounts of the attack. They testified Tuesday that they were beaten as the mob of Donald Trump supporters overwhelmed them, broke through windows and doors and interrupted the congressional certification of Democrat Joe Biden\u2019s presidential win. A new House committee is launching its probe with a focus on the law enforcement officers who protected lawmakers and the Capitol itself.. Officers testified with emotion that they felt they might well be killed. And they rebuked Republican lawmakers for resisting the investigation and playing down the violence of the mob.<\/p>\n

SALEM, Ore. (AP) \u2014 A former Oregon lawmaker who was expelled for letting violent, far-right protesters into the state Capitol has pleaded guilty to one count of official misconduct. The Statesman Journal reports that Mike Nearman was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months parole, during which he will need to complete 80 hours of community service and is banned from the Capitol building and grounds. He will also pay $200 in court fees and $2,700 to the Oregon Legislative Administration for damages done during the Dec. 21 riot. Last month Nearman, a Republican from Polk County, became the first member of the Oregon House to be expelled in its 160-year history. The House voted 59-1 to remove him from the Legislature for disorderly behavior.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 In a major step against climate change, President Joe Biden is proposing a return to aggressive Obama-era vehicle mileage standards over five years. He’s then aiming for even tougher anti-pollution rules after that to forcefully reduce greenhouse gas emissions and nudge 40% of U.S. drivers into electric vehicles by decade\u2019s end. That’s according to proposed rules from the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Transportation that are expected to be released as early as next week. Industry and government officials who have been briefed on the plan tell The Associated Press the requirements would start for model year 2023.<\/p>\n

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) \u2014 A South Carolina man has been convicted of abducting and murdering the woman who mistook his car for her Uber ride in 2019. A jury on Tuesday found Nathaniel Rowland guilty in the death of 21-year-old Samantha Josephson of Robbinsville, New Jersey. The University of South Carolina student disappeared in March 2019. Her body was found less than a day later in remote woods. Prosecutors said Rowland had trapped Josephson in the car with childproof locks that could only be opened from the outside and then stabbed her more than 100 times. Defense attorneys argued that none of Rowland\u2019s DNA was found on the victim.<\/p>\n
