\"\"West Fargo\u00a0 (NDHP)\u00a0 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that on Tuesday there were two small plane crashes in North Dakota, one killing the pilot. \u00a0 On August Tuesday 10, 2021 just be<\/span>fore 4:00 p.m., a single en<\/span>gine aircraft struck the <\/span>top of a tree row and crashed into an adjacent <\/span>field. The North Dakota Highway Patrol reports,the pilot suffer<\/span>ed serious injuries and <\/span>was transported to a local hospital. The single <\/span>engine aircraft had just<\/span> left the area of the <\/span>West Fargo Airport. The location of the cras<\/span>h was approximately 1 mile<\/span> west of West Fargo <\/span>on 12th Avenue NW, or near 12th Avenue NW\/26th Street NW, West Fargo.<\/span> Weather conditions <\/span>
were clear with a west <\/span>wind of about 15 mph. <\/span>

The incident remains under investigation by th<\/span>e FAA. Other assisting agencies include the <\/span>Cass County Sheriff\u2019s Office, <\/span>West Fargo Police Department<\/span>, West Fargo Rural Fire\u00a0 <\/span>Department, and FM Ambulance. The name of<\/span> the pilot will be released following family <\/span>notification.<\/span><\/p>\n

Earlier, Tuesday, the North Dakota Highway Patrol reported that on Tuesday, August 8, at approximately 7:40 am a crop spraying aircraft actively <\/span>engaged in spraying struck a high voltage transmission line. The crash occurred three miles west and three\u00a0 miles south of Strasburg, ND near the intersection of 7th avenue and 92nd street SE.\u00a0 The impact caused disabling\u00a0 <\/span>damage to the aircraft and it crashed into a nearby field. The pilot suffered fatal injuries during <\/span>the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Western Area Power <\/span>Administration transmission line was severed.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The National Transportation Safety Board tweeted earlier that the plane was a Rockwell International S-2R, a fixed wing aircraft. The NTSB, Federal Aviation Administration and Emmons County deputies are investigating.<\/p>\n

The crash\u00a0 <\/span>remains under investigation by the NDHP and FAA with the assistance of the Emmons County\u00a0 <\/span>Sheriff\u2019s office. The name of the pilot will be released pending notification of family. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

WATFORD CITY, S.D. (AP) \u2014 Authorities say fires involving three oil wells in McKenzie County were brought under control over the weekend after they had burned for 16 days. Crews put out the fire at the first well northeast of Watford City last Tuesday and extinguished the final well on Saturday. An inspector from the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality was headed to the site to talk with personnel there and do a visual inspection. The Bismarck Tribune reports that an early estimate Petro-Hunt provided the state indicated that 4,200 gallons of oil and 4,200 gallons of produced water spilled in the incident. Produced water is also known as brine or saltwater, and it comes up alongside oil and gas in wells.<\/p>\n

The Jimmies captured six of the 12 first-place votes for a total of 115 points. Midland (Neb.) received the other six first-place votes and was second with 111 points. Dordt (Iowa) was third with 100 points.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 An effort by 11 former University of North Dakota women\u2019s hockey players to bring back the program that was dropped in 2017 has gotten a reprieve. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals revived the players’ lawsuit on Tuesday. The original complaint alleged that when the school dropped hockey, it violated Title IX laws that prohibit women from being treated differently because of gender. But a federal judge said the lawsuit did not show a \u201csubstantial disproportionality\u201d between men\u2019s and women\u2019s athletic opportunities. The players appealed in October and a three-judge panel ruled that the athletes may be able to state an actionable Title IX claim.<\/p>\n

\"\"VCSU<\/a>\u00a0 \u2013 The Valley City State volleyball team was selected to finish sixth in the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) Preseason Coaches\u2019 Poll, the conference office announced Monday.<\/p>\n

The Vikings finished the 2020 season with a 3-11 conference record and a seventh-place finish in the NSAA.\u00a0All NSAA members will\u00a0play\u00a0a 14-match schedule with the Vikings opening conference play at Dickinson State on Sept. 16.<\/p>\n

Viterbo (Wis.) is the league\u2019s head coaches favorite to win the 2021 North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) title.\u00a0 It is the seventh consecutive year that the V-Hawks are predicted to win the conference title.<\/p>\n

Viterbo collected seven first-place votes and tallied 63 points to secure the top spot in the conference preseason poll.\u00a0 Bellevue (Neb.) picked up the final first-place vote and tallied 57 points to finish second.<\/p>\n

The league went through a split conference schedule last season, playing in the fall and spring seasons due to COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0 The Bruins, who finished 17-7 overall record last season, won their first-ever league conference regular-season title last season with a 12-2 conference record.<\/p>\n

The V-Hawks stormed back to defeat the Bruins in the league postseason tournament, claiming their sixth straight North Star Athletic Association postseason tournament title in a five-set thriller in Bellevue.<\/p>\n

Dakota State (S.D.) edged Mayville State (N.D.) by three points (45-42) to finish third in the poll.\u00a0 The Comets finished second in last year\u2019s league standings and punched their ticket to their first-ever NAIA National Tournament\u2019s Opening Round before falling to eventual national runner-up Midland (Neb.).<\/p>\n

Viterbo (14-9 overall record in 2020-21) finished No. 16 in the final NAIA Volleyball Coaches\u2019 Top 25 national poll last season.\u00a0 Bellevue was ranked No. 18 in the poll, while Mayville State (23-11 overall record last season) received votes.<\/p>\n

Dickinson State (N.D.) placed fifth in the conference preseason poll with 26 points followed by Valley City State (N.D.) sixth with 23 points.\u00a0 Presentation (S.D.) is seventh with 18 points and Waldorf (Iowa) is eighth with 14 points.<\/p>\n

The conference season officially kicks off Tuesday, Sept. 14 with Presentation traveling to Mayville State and Bellevue hosting Dakota State.\u00a0 The rest of the NSAA\u2019s opening-season matches are on Wednesday, Sept. 15 with VCSU at DiSU and WU at VU.<\/p>\n

The top six teams will qualify for the North Star conference postseason tournament on Nov. 12-13.\u00a0 The postseason tournament is scheduled to take place at the Civic Arena in Watertown, S.D.<\/p>\n

The NSAA postseason tournament\u2019s champion will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament, which is scheduled for Nov. 20 at campus sites.<\/p>\n

The national tournament\u2019s opening round winners will move on to the final site at Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.\u00a0 The final site of the national tournament opens with the pool play action on the first two days on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, followed by single-elimination bracket play starting on Dec. 2.\u00a0 The championship match is scheduled for Dec. 4.<\/p>\n

Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced that Jenkins died Monday, saying the cause was brain cancer. Jenkins, an Indiana native, was heard over five decades on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network and was chief announcer from 1990-98. He was one of four people to serve as television play-by-play announcer during ABC\u2019s 54-year history of broadcasting the Indy 500. Andrew Cuomo says he will resign over a barrage of sexual harassment allegations in a fall from grace a year after he was widely hailed nationally for his detailed daily briefings and leadership during the darkest days of COVID-19. The three-term Democratic governor\u2019s decision, which will take effect in two weeks, was announced Tuesday as momentum built in the Legislature to remove him by impeachment. It came after New York\u2019s attorney general released the results of an investigation that found Cuomo sexually harassed at least 11 women. Cuomo called some of the allegations fabricated and forcefully denying he touched anyone inappropriately.<\/p>\n

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) \u2014 As New York\u2019s lieutenant governor, Kathy Hochul has spent years on the road as the friendly face of the administration. During two terms, she has visited each of the state\u2019s 62 counties yearly for countless ribbon-cutting ceremonies and civic cheerleading events. Now, with Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s resignation Tuesday, her next stop is the state Capitol in Albany. Hochul will become the state\u2019s first female governor once Cuomo’s resignation is effective in two weeks. The centrist Democrat from western New York last week joined the chorus of politicians denouncing the governor. She said Tuesday that she’s ready to lead.<\/p>\n

Joe Kanter, Louisiana\u2019s chief public health officer, told state officials the situation is dire. In Florida, COVID-19 cases have filled so many hospital beds that ambulance services and fire departments are straining to respond to emergencies. A nurses union official says the current surge in COVID-19 cases is causing some nurses to just quit.<\/p>\n

(AP) \u2014 Facebook has removed hundreds of accounts linked to a disinformation network operating out of Russia that sought to smear COVID-19 vaccines made by Pfizer and AstraZeneca. The company said Tuesday that it has banned the advertising firm behind the campaign, which had offered to pay social media influencers in Europe if they posted their misleading content. The plan backfired when two of those influencers exposed the network. Facebook said it traced the content to a firm called Fazze, which is registered in the United Kingdom but operates from Russia. Messages left seeking comment from Fazze were not returned Tuesday.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The National Security Agency\u2019s inspector general says it will investigate allegations against the spy agency following Fox News host Tucker Carlson\u2019s claims that the U.S. spied on his electronic communications. The inspector general said in a statement that its review would examine NSA\u2019s \u201ccompliance with applicable legal authorities\u201d and the agency\u2019s own policies on collecting and sharing information it collects. Conservatives have assailed President Joe Biden\u2019s administration following Carlson\u2019s repeated allegations beginning in late June that the agency was trying to take his show off the air, a claim for which he has provided no evidence. His allegation prompted a rare statement from the normally reclusive NSA denying his claims.<\/p>\n

PHOENIX (AP) \u2014 Vote-counting machine maker Dominion Voting Systems is filing defamation lawsuits against right-wing broadcasters and a prominent Donald Trump ally over their baseless claims that the 2020 election was marred by fraud. The suits filed Tuesday name Newsmax, One America News, their executives and the former Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne. Dominion says their false claims that the company rigged the election for President Joe Biden have cost it $1.6 billion in lost profits, company value and reputational damage. Byrne and OAN founder Charles Herring did not respond to messages seeking comment. A spokesman for Newsmax says the lawsuit is an attempt to squelch its reporting.<\/p>\n
