State Department of Transportation Director Wayde Swenson says typical summer mowing has been delayed to give property owners more time to collect hay during the drought. Fall mowing will begin Sept. 7 and include all remaining areas along state highways. Adjacent landowners who plan to mow non-interstate ditches for hay should do it before the state mows the areas.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Gov. Doug Burgum has signed an order aimed at helping livestock producers battle extreme drought conditions across North Dakota. The order waives hours of service restrictions for drivers of commercial vehicles that are transporting hay, water and livestock. Producers have been forced to sell off parts of their herds or supplement their supplies because they’re running short on water and feed. The order allows commercial haulers to move additional food and water that producers need to maintain their herds and make it easier for ranchers to move their herds. The latest picture from the U.S. Drought Monitor rates 46% of the state in extreme drought and 38% in severe drought.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — State officials say production of oil and gas in North Dakota is holding steady. The latest figures released Friday show the state’s oil production from May to June has plateaued at about 1.1 million barrels per day for both months. State Mineral Resources Director Lynn Helms characterizes the Bakken as a “sleeping giant.” The coronavirus pandemic put the industry to sleep and its struggling to wake up. The state’s oil production has recovered somewhat from last summer’s lows amid the coronavirus pandemic, but it’s far from the record 1.5 million barrels per day produced in late 2019.

In sports…

Sioux City, IA (UJ) — The University of Jamestown women’s soccer team was picked to finish third in the GPAC as the conference’s preseason poll was released Wednesday.

UJ received 120 points and three first-place votes, behind second-place Concordia (Neb.) with 129 points and two first-place votes; and first-place Briar Cliff (Iowa), with 136 points and eight first-place votes.

Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team in the poll.

The Jimmies open the regular season on August 21 at home against Graceland University.

Place

Team

Pts.
