UNDATED (AP) \u2014 The Rays have placed slugger Nelson Cruz on the COVID-19 injured list.<\/p>\n
The 41-year-old Cruz was acquired from Minnesota last month.<\/p>\n
He is hitting .198 with seven homers and 18 RBIs in 24 games with Tampa Bay. He has a .270 batting average, with 26 homers and 68 RBIs this season.<\/p>\n

Rangers great Gilbert dies at 80<\/p>\n
UNDATED (AP) \u2014 Hockey Hall of Famer Rod Gilbert (zhihl-BEHR\u2019) has died at 80.<\/p>\n
Gilbert spent his entire career with the New York Rangers from 1962-77, putting up big numbers despite a spinal fusion. He was the team\u2019s all-time scoring leader when he was released by the team, finishing with 406 goals and 1,021 points.<\/p>\n
The eight-time All-Star also played for Team Canada in the Summit Series against the USSR in 1972. Gilbert was a First Team All-Star in 1972, the year he helped the Rangers reach the Stanley Cup Final as one-third of the famous GAG Line with Jean Ratelle (zhahn rah-TEHL\u2019) and Vic Hadfield.<\/p>\n
The team didn\u2019t provide details of Gilbert\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

In a memo sent to players Sunday night, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said he is amending the bad weather guidelines to allow for a Tuesday finish regardless of how much golf is played Monday.<\/p>\n
Monahan cited the importance and the sequential nature of the FedEx Cup playoffs in making an exception to the guidelines.<\/p>\n
The tour said spectators would not be allowed for the final round because of some 6 inches of rain that had left walking routes impassable by Sunday night.<\/p>\n

Pampling wins after 2 others falter<\/p>\n
SNOQUALMIE, Wash. (AP) \u2014 Rod Pampling won the Boeing Classic on Sunday for his first PGA Tour Champions victory.<\/p>\n
The victory was made possible when Jim Furyk (FYOOR\u2019-ihk) and Woody Austin failed to get up-and-down for birdie from greenside bunkers on the par-5 18th.<\/p>\n
Pampling shot a 6-under 66 to finish at 12-under 204. The 51-year-old Australian won three times on the PGA Tour, the last in 2017 in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Blaney wins in Michigan<\/p>\n
BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) \u2014 Ryan Blaney was the winner of Sunday\u2019s NASCAR Cup race at Michigan International Speedway.<\/p>\n
Blaney took the lead from William Byron on a late restart and bobbed and weaved his way across the final seven laps. Blaney edged Byron by 0.077 seconds, the closest finish on the two-mile track since electronic scoring began.<\/p>\n
Blaney has two wins this season and six overall.<\/p>\n
Kyle Larson finished third, Kyle Busch fourth, and Denny Hamlin fifth.<\/p>\n
Blaney gave Team Penske a weekend sweep of NASCAR and IndyCar races and ended Kevin Harvick\u2019s reign as the Michigan champ.<\/p>\n
Harvick won the last three races and four of five at the track.<\/p>\n

Titans coach tests positive for COVID-19<\/p>\n
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) \u2014 Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel (VRAY\u2019-bul) is vaccinated but now says he has tested positive for COVID-19 and will quarantine pending further testing.<\/p>\n
Under NFL protocols, Vrabel must have two negative test results within 48 hours to go back to work inside the Titans\u2019 headquarters or remain in quarantine for 10 days. That could keep him away until Sept. 1, 11 days before the Titans\u2019 season opener against Arizona.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

WESTERLY, R.I. (AP) \u2014 The tropical depression Henri appears to be lingering in the Northeast, raising the prospect it will bring sustained rains and cause major flooding inland. The National Weather Service says the system is expected to stall Monday near the Connecticut-New York state line before moving east across New England. The agency says Henri could drop an additional 1 to 3 inches of rain Monday. That could possibly lead to flooding in some areas. Henri was a hurricane at one point before it made landfall in Rhode Island. It was downgraded to a tropical storm and is now a depression.<\/p>\n

WAVERLY, Tenn. (AP) \u2014 A sheriff in Tennessee says at least 22 people are dead any many are missing after record-setting rain caused devastating flooding that swept away homes. A Facebook page from officials in Waverly listed about 40 missing people Sunday afternoon. Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis said many of the missing were from neighborhoods hit hardest by Saturday\u2019s flash flood. The dead ranged in age from young children to elderly people and included the foreman at country star Loretta Lynn’s ranch. Up to 17 inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours, which set a new one-day record for rainfall in Tennessee.<\/p>\n

Top Democrats want the House to quickly approve a budget resolution setting up future passage of legislation directing $3.5 trillion at safety net and environment programs. But the moderates are threatening to oppose the budget unless the House first approves a $1 trillion infrastructure package. Speaking at the White House on Sunday, Biden said no Afghans are being flown directly to the United States without prior screening. TOKYO (AP) \u2014 Japan is sending three military aircraft to Afghanistan to evacuate Japanese citizens and local staff as security deteriorates following the Taliban takeover. Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi says the planes will pick up Japanese nationals and Afghans who worked for the Japanese Embassy and development agencies. Japan closed its Kabul embassy on Aug. 15 and set up a temporary office in neighboring Turkey two days later, but local employees at the embassy and other Japan-related organizations remain in Afghanistan. Kishi declined to say how many people will be evacuated, citing security reasons.<\/p>\n
